Intro to Biology 1 is an introduction to how living things are built, how they work, and how scientists study them. It covers the basic chemistry of life, cells, energy use, genetics, and the processes that allow organisms to grow, reproduce, and respond to their environment.
Intro to Biology 1 is a self-paced online course built around video lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Quizzes count for 20% of the grade, assignments for 30%, and the final exam for 50%, so the exam carries the most weight and steady work on the earlier components matters. Once you pass, the course appears on your transcript as 3 credits, and Dunlap-Stone University recognizes that credit as General Education Science under its articulation agreement with UPI Study.
The course teaches you to read a biological claim critically, design a simple experiment, and explain how cells, energy, and genetics connect, which is useful in any job that relies on data or evidence. At DSU, these credits count toward general education in programs such as the Associate of Arts: Business Administration, the Bachelor of Business Administration, and the Bachelor of Arts: Psychology. In the psychology program, the scientific method and experimental reasoning carry over directly into how research studies are designed and evaluated.
After you complete Intro to Biology 1 through UPI Study, your official transcript is sent to Dunlap-Stone University. The DSU registrar then applies the course to your record as General Education Science, based on the equivalency in the signed articulation agreement. That recognition means the 3 credits satisfy a general-education science requirement in your degree plan, so you do not need to take a separate gen-ed science course to meet it. Transfer credit at DSU is capped at 90 credits, or 75% of the degree, so the course counts toward that limit along with any other transferred work.
This course suits students who want to finish a DSU degree at a lower cost, such as working adults who can study on their own schedule, people returning to school to complete a degree, and career changers who need a science requirement out of the way. Because DSU recognizes it as a general-education equivalency, it fills a gen-ed science slot, and transfer credit can cover up to 90 credits of a degree. It is not the right choice for someone whose DSU program requires a specific named science course for the major, or for someone who needs a course that does not fit a general-education requirement.
