Savings estimate = credits × $475, DSU's undergraduate rate of $1,425 per 3-credit course (2026-2027 Academic Catalog). Under the articulation agreement DSU does not charge tuition for the UPI Study courses it recognizes as credit. Credit awards are subject to DSU's registrar review and policy.
Introduction to Linux is a course about how the Linux operating system works, where it came from, and how people use it on computers, servers, and virtual machines. It covers both the ideas behind Linux, such as its history and open-source community, and the practical tasks involved in using it, like working with files, managing software, and using the command line.
Introduction to Linux (Computer Science 201, 3 credits) is graded in four equal parts: attendance, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam, each worth 25%. The course covers both the history and open-source community behind Linux and the hands-on work of managing files, software, and the command line. Once you complete it, UPI Study records the 3 credits on your transcript, and Dunlap-Stone University reviews that transcript to apply the course to its General Education Technology requirement.
Working comfortably in a terminal, managing user accounts and permissions, and installing Fedora on a local machine or virtual machine are practical skills in software development, system administration, and community management. At DSU, the course's 3 credits count toward General Education Technology, so they can fill a general-education slot in a degree such as the Associate of Arts: Business Administration, the Bachelor of Business Administration, or the Bachelor of Arts: Psychology. That means the credits reduce the number of courses you still need rather than adding electives you do not need.
After you finish the course, UPI Study sends your transcript to Dunlap-Stone University. Under the signed articulation agreement, DSU's registrar applies Appendix 1, which assigns Introduction to Linux to the General Education Technology category. Your degree plan determines exactly how that equivalency is used, so confirm placement with a DSU advisor before you enroll. DSU accepts up to 90 credits (75%) from transfer, and at its rate of $475 per credit, this 3-credit course corresponds to $1,425 in DSU tuition.
This course suits students who need a technology general-education credit, working adults who want a lower-cost way to finish a DSU degree, and people weighing a move toward IT who want a first look at how Linux is used. Because DSU recognizes the course as General Education Technology and accepts up to 90 credits (75%) in transfer, it is most useful when technology is one of your remaining gen-ed requirements. It is not the right choice if you need an advanced programming or systems course for your major, or if your degree audit shows no open general-education slot for it.
Dunlap-Stone University recognizes UPI Study courses for credit in its undergraduate degrees under the signed articulation agreement. Each course below has the DSU course, general education category or elective credit Appendix 1 assigns it.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Students must be enrolled at DSU in good standing and meet course and program requirements. DSU is solely responsible for how it recognizes UPI Study courses.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Dunlap-Stone University.
