Savings estimate = credits × $475, DSU's undergraduate rate of $1,425 per 3-credit course (2026-2027 Academic Catalog). Under the articulation agreement DSU does not charge tuition for the UPI Study courses it recognizes as credit. Credit awards are subject to DSU's registrar review and policy.
Introduction to Operating Systems is a course about the software that manages a computer’s basic operations and lets people use hardware and applications effectively. It covers how operating systems handle tasks such as starting up the machine, running programs, managing memory, coordinating processes, and connecting with devices, storage, and networks.
Students complete four graded components: quizzes, assignments, a final exam, and attendance, each weighted at 25 percent of the final grade. Finishing the course produces transcript credit that Dunlap-Stone University accepts under its articulation agreement with UPI Study as General Education Technology.
Understanding how an operating system starts a machine, schedules jobs, allocates memory, and manages storage and networks helps you troubleshoot a slow computer, communicate with IT staff, and judge what hardware or software a workplace needs. At DSU, the credit counts toward a general education requirement in degrees such as the Associate of Arts: Business Administration, the Bachelor of Business Administration, and the Bachelor of Arts: Psychology.
After you finish the course, UPI Study sends your transcript to Dunlap-Stone University. DSU's registrar reviews the credit under the articulation agreement and applies the General Education Technology equivalency, which satisfies a general education requirement in your degree plan. Ask your academic advisor to confirm exactly where the 3 credits apply in your program, since the equivalency fills a general education category rather than a major requirement. Transfer credit at DSU is limited to 90 credits (75 percent), so the rest of your degree must be earned through DSU coursework.
This course suits working adults returning to school, career changers who use computers every day but have never looked at how they function, and cost-conscious students who want to fill a general education requirement at DSU's rate of $475 per credit. Transfer credit is capped at 90 credits, or 75 percent of a degree, so the remaining 25 percent must be completed at DSU, and students should plan for that. It is not the right choice for someone who needs a course in a specific programming language or hands-on server administration, since the stated outcomes focus on how operating systems work rather than on building or configuring systems.
Dunlap-Stone University recognizes UPI Study courses for credit in its undergraduate degrees under the signed articulation agreement. Each course below has the DSU course, general education category or elective credit Appendix 1 assigns it.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Students must be enrolled at DSU in good standing and meet course and program requirements. DSU is solely responsible for how it recognizes UPI Study courses.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Dunlap-Stone University.
