Savings estimate = credits × $475, DSU's undergraduate rate of $1,425 per 3-credit course (2026-2027 Academic Catalog). Under the articulation agreement DSU does not charge tuition for the UPI Study courses it recognizes as credit. Credit awards are subject to DSU's registrar review and policy.
Medical Terminology is the study of the words used in healthcare to describe the body, diseases, procedures, tests, and treatments. It focuses on how medical terms are built from prefixes, suffixes, and root words, so you can understand what a term means even if you have never seen it before. The course also introduces common abbreviations and the language used across major body systems.
Medical Terminology is a 3-credit, self-paced online course built on video lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Your grade combines four equal parts: attendance, quizzes, assignments, and the final exam, each worth 25%. Once you complete the course, the credit transfers to Dunlap-Stone University as an Elective equivalency, counting toward your total credit hours and elective requirements.
Learning how prefixes, suffixes, and root words combine lets you read clinical notes, lab reports, and medical paperwork without guessing at meanings. At DSU, these three elective credits can fill open slots in the Associate of Arts: Business Administration, the Bachelor of Business Administration, or the Bachelor of Arts: Psychology. The vocabulary is especially useful if your business or psychology work involves healthcare clients, insurers, or patient-facing settings.
After you finish Medical Terminology through UPI Study, your transcript is sent to Dunlap-Stone University, where the registrar applies the course as an Elective equivalency under the articulation agreement. In practice, the three credits count toward your total credit hours and your elective requirements rather than replacing a specific DSU course. DSU accepts up to 90 transferred credits, which is 75% of a degree, so check how many transfer credits you already have before enrolling in this course.
This course suits students who need a few more elective hours to finish a DSU degree, adults returning to school who want a manageable way to earn credit, and anyone trying to keep tuition down, since transferred credit does not have to be paid for at DSU's $475 per-credit rate. Because the recognition is elective rather than tied to a specific requirement, it works best when you simply need hours, not a particular course. It is a poor choice if you need a course that DSU would count toward a named general education or major requirement, or if you have already used much of the 90-credit transfer allowance.
Dunlap-Stone University recognizes UPI Study courses for credit in its undergraduate degrees under the signed articulation agreement. Each course below has the DSU course, general education category or elective credit Appendix 1 assigns it.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Students must be enrolled at DSU in good standing and meet course and program requirements. DSU is solely responsible for how it recognizes UPI Study courses.
