Savings estimate uses Gracelyn University's $88.80/credit undergraduate tuition (2026-2027 catalog; $44 with Gracelyn's institutional scholarship). Gracelyn accepts up to 60 transfer credits into a bachelor's and 30 into an associate degree, for courses with a C- or better that fit the program. Final credit awards are determined by Gracelyn University.
Advanced Technical Writing is the study of how to explain information clearly in professional settings. It focuses on writing that helps people do something, understand a process, or make a decision, such as emails, memos, instructions, reports, proposals, resumes, and cover letters. The course also covers how to write for different audiences and how to handle ethical and legal issues in communication.
Advanced Technical Writing (English 120) is a self-paced online course built around video lessons, quizzes, a writing assignment, and a final exam. Grades are weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the exam carries the most weight. Passing with the equivalent of a C- or better produces a transcript entry that Gracelyn University recognizes as ENGL 1302 – Composition II (Early Childhood, Elementary) and ENGL 2306 – American Literature I (Secondary ELAR, Secondary Mathematics, Secondary Science, Secondary Social Studies).
The course trains you to write emails, memos, instructions, reports, and proposals that a reader can act on without follow-up questions. Those skills carry directly into school and district communication, such as parent notices, staff memos, and written plans. At Gracelyn, the credit can count toward the Associate of Science in Transformational Education (ATED) or the Bachelor of Science in Transformational Education (BTED), provided it fits the degree plan you are following.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Gracelyn University, and Gracelyn's registrar reviews it for transfer. Gracelyn names ENGL 1302 – Composition II as the equivalent for Early Childhood and Elementary pathways, and ENGL 2306 – American Literature I for Secondary ELAR, Secondary Mathematics, Secondary Science, and Secondary Social Studies pathways. Because this is a named course equivalency, it maps to a specific catalog code rather than a general elective, which is the strongest form of transfer recognition. Transfer credit must meet the C- minimum and fit your program, and Gracelyn accepts up to 60 credits (50%) in total, so check how this course and your other transfer work add up against that limit.
This course suits students heading to Gracelyn who want to lower the number of credits they must take there, including working adults returning to school, students finishing a degree, and people changing careers who need to show written communication coursework. Cost is also a reasonable reason to take it, since Gracelyn lists its rate at $88.8 per credit. Keep the 60-credit transfer ceiling (50%) in mind when planning. It is not a good fit for anyone who needs a live, instructor-led class or who expects this course to satisfy a requirement it does not match at Gracelyn.
Gracelyn University is DEAC-accredited and names the Gracelyn course for each UPI Study course on its list, pathway by pathway. Transfer credit needs the equivalent of a C- or better and must fit the program.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined solely by the receiving university's registrar.
