Entrepreneurship is the study of how new business ideas are identified, shaped, and turned into workable ventures. It covers the mindset and practical steps involved in starting and growing a business, including market research, planning, financing, ethics, and communicating an idea clearly.
The course is self-paced and online, built from video lessons, with quizzes and an assignment along the way and a final exam at the end. Grades are weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam. Once you complete it and the transcript credit posts, UMT can recognize that credit as MGT 495 – Entrepreneurship, a named equivalency that maps to a specific course code in UMT's catalog.
The course covers how to test a business idea, write a plan, weigh financing and business structure options, and explain the idea to others. Those skills apply whether you launch a venture, manage a small team, or pitch a new initiative inside an existing employer. At UMT, MGT 495 can count toward the Associate of Business Administration or the Bachelor of Business Administration, so the same coursework supports both your work and your degree progress.
After you finish, the transcript is sent to UMT, where the Office of Academic Affairs evaluates it against UMT course outcomes, with review by faculty or subject-matter experts. If approved, the credit is applied as MGT 495 – Entrepreneurship, which means it fills that specific course slot in your degree plan rather than counting as general elective credit. Transfer credit of up to 90 credits (75%) may be accepted toward your UMT degree, so plan the rest of your program with that ceiling in mind.
This course suits people who already have some college credit and want to finish a business degree without repeating material they have already learned, such as working adults and career changers planning a business or a move into management. Because UMT recognizes it as MGT 495 – Entrepreneurship, you pay nothing at UMT's $390-per-credit rate for those three credits, which comes to $1,170 avoided. It is not a good fit if your UMT degree plan does not include business coursework, or if you need a non-business elective, since the credit only helps where MGT 495 is a valid requirement.
UMT's Office of Academic Affairs evaluates transfer credit and prior learning against UMT course outcomes, with review by faculty or subject-matter experts. The figures below are from UMT's 2026-27 University Catalog.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined by UMT's Office of Academic Affairs.
