Introduction to JavaScript is a beginner course in programming for the web. It covers the basics of HTML and CSS as they relate to JavaScript, then moves into variables, operators, conditionals, loops, functions, objects, data structures, the Document Object Model (DOM), and form handling. In simple terms, it teaches how websites can respond to user actions and change on the page.
The course is self-paced and fully online, with video lessons followed by quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Grades are weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the final exam carries the most weight. When you pass the course and the transcript is issued, that credit is what UMT recognizes as CST 221 – Programming in JavaScript.
The course teaches you to make web pages respond to clicks, form input, and other user actions, which is a skill that shows up in front-end work and in any job that involves online forms or dashboards. Because UMT recognizes this course as CST 221 – Programming in JavaScript, the credit can count toward UMT degree plans such as the Associate of Business Administration and the Bachelor of Business Administration, so the time you spent learning also moves you closer to a credential.
After you finish the course, the transcript is sent to UMT, and the UMT registrar applies the credit as CST 221 – Programming in JavaScript once it has been evaluated. UMT's Office of Academic Affairs reviews transfer credit against UMT course outcomes, with faculty or subject-matter expert review, so the credit is reviewed before it is recorded. Because this is a named course equivalency rather than general elective credit, it appears on your UMT record as a specific catalog course and can be placed directly in your degree plan. Transfer credit is capped at 90 credits, or 75% of a degree, so this course counts within that limit.
This course suits working adults who want a transferable credit they can complete on their own schedule, degree-finishers who need a few remaining credits, and career changers who want a first look at programming before committing to a longer sequence. Cost-conscious students may also find it useful, since each credit that transfers replaces coursework that would otherwise be billed at UMT's $390 per-credit rate. It is not a good fit for anyone who expects a deep software engineering curriculum, since the course is introductory and the UMT recognition is for CST 221 specifically. Students who have already passed a comparable JavaScript course at UMT would also gain little from taking it.
UMT's Office of Academic Affairs evaluates transfer credit and prior learning against UMT course outcomes, with review by faculty or subject-matter experts. The figures below are from UMT's 2026-27 University Catalog.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined by UMT's Office of Academic Affairs.
