Business Math is the use of everyday mathematics in business settings. It covers topics like percentages, fractions, decimals, graphs, equations, probability, statistics, and basic financial calculations such as interest, depreciation, and installment purchases. The goal is to help you understand and solve the kinds of numerical problems that come up in business and personal finance.
Business Math is a self-paced online course built around video lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Your grade combines 25% Attendance, 25% Quizzes, 25% Assignments, and 25% Final Exam. When you complete the course and the transcript comes through, UMT's Office of Academic Affairs can evaluate it against UMT course outcomes and recognize it as MATH 200 – Business Mathematics.
The skills in this course cover percentages, discounts, interest, depreciation, installment purchases, currency conversion, and financial ratios, which show up in everyday budgeting and in business reporting alike. At UMT, the credit counts toward the math requirements in programs such as the Associate of Business Administration and the Bachelor of Business Administration. Learning the numbers early means the quantitative courses later in those programs build on material you already know.
After you finish Business Math, your institution sends an official transcript to UMT. The Office of Academic Affairs reviews the course against UMT outcomes, with faculty or subject-matter expert input, and if it is approved, the credit is recorded as MATH 200 – Business Mathematics. This is a named course equivalency, which means the credit maps to a specific course code in the UMT catalog rather than a general elective, so it can satisfy a matching requirement in your degree plan. Transfer credit is capped at 90 credits (75%) toward your UMT degree, and UMT's 2026-27 University Catalog lists the per-credit rate at $390, which you can use to estimate how much this course reduces your remaining cost.
This course suits students who already plan to earn a UMT business credential and want to cover part of that work with a lower-cost, self-paced option. Working adults fitting study around a job, students finishing a degree that stalled on a math requirement, and career changers moving into business roles are common fits. Because UMT accepts up to 90 credits (75%) in transfer, this course uses part of that allowance, so it is worth checking how many credits you have already committed elsewhere. It is not a good choice if you need a course with a live instructor or if you want an in-depth theoretical math sequence rather than applied business calculations.
UMT's Office of Academic Affairs evaluates transfer credit and prior learning against UMT course outcomes, with review by faculty or subject-matter experts. The figures below are from UMT's 2026-27 University Catalog.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined by UMT's Office of Academic Affairs.
