Physics I is an introduction to the basic laws that describe how objects move and interact. It covers measurement, vectors, motion, forces, work, and energy, so you learn how to use math to explain everyday physical situations such as a falling object, a car speeding up, or a ball thrown through the air.
Physics I is a self-paced online course built on video lessons, a set of quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Your grade is weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the closing exam carries the most weight. When you complete the course and the transcript shows it, that record is what UMT evaluates for PHY 200 – Physics I.
The course teaches you to set up a problem with vectors, measure motion, and reason through forces and energy with math, skills that carry into budgeting models, operations analysis, and any role that depends on interpreting numbers. Because UMT recognizes this credit as PHY 200 – Physics I, it can count toward the quantitative requirements in degree programs such as the Associate of Business Administration and the Bachelor of Business Administration. Check your specific program sheet to see where the course is placed.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to UMT. UMT's Office of Academic Affairs reviews it against UMT course outcomes, with faculty or subject-matter expert review, and the registrar applies PHY 200 – Physics I to your record. This is a named course equivalency, so the credit posts to a specific catalog course code rather than as general elective credit, which makes it easier to plan around in your degree audit. UMT accepts up to 90 transfer credits (75%) toward a degree, so track how much transfer credit you have already applied before you add more.
This course suits adults who are returning to school, students finishing a degree who need one more science credit, and people switching careers who want a lower-cost route to a UMT credential. Because UMT accepts up to 90 credits (75%) in transfer, you can use this course as part of that allowance while still completing the rest of your degree at UMT. It is not a good fit for someone who wants a full lab-based physics sequence, or for anyone who expects a course this short to cover topics beyond introductory mechanics.
UMT's Office of Academic Affairs evaluates transfer credit and prior learning against UMT course outcomes, with review by faculty or subject-matter experts. The figures below are from UMT's 2026-27 University Catalog.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined by UMT's Office of Academic Affairs.
