Principles of Statistics is an introduction to how people collect, summarize, and interpret data. It covers the basic ideas behind surveys and experiments, how to read graphs and tables, and how to use probability to make sense of uncertainty. Students also learn how to work with common distributions, confidence intervals, and sample sizes.
The course is self-paced and fully online. You work through video lessons on your own schedule, then complete the quizzes and assignments as you go. Grades are weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the final carries as much weight as the other two components combined. Completing the course produces the transcript credit that UMT recognizes as STAT 200 – Basic Statistics.
Reading tables and graphs critically, judging whether a survey or experiment supports its conclusions, and using probability and confidence intervals are useful in budget reviews, market research, and operations planning. The Excel work gives you a practical way to build charts and run calculations you can hand to a manager. For students working toward the Associate of Business Administration or the Bachelor of Business Administration at UMT, this credit enters the degree plan as STAT 200, so the skills and the transfer record connect directly.
Once you finish, your transcript is sent to UMT, and UMT's registrar applies the credit as STAT 200 – Basic Statistics. This is a named course equivalency that maps to a specific catalog code, the strongest form of transfer recognition UMT offers, so it is not an open elective placeholder. UMT's Office of Academic Affairs evaluates transfer credit against UMT course outcomes with review by faculty or subject-matter experts. Up to 90 credits (75%) may transfer to UMT in total, so this course counts toward that ceiling along with any other credit you bring in.
This course suits working adults who want a quantitative credit that transfers as a named equivalent, degree-finishers who need a statistics course to complete a UMT program, career changers moving toward business analysis, and students who want to reduce the number of credits they pay for at UMT's rate of $390 per credit. Because transfer is capped at 90 credits (75%), it works best as one piece of a plan you have already mapped. It is not a good fit if you need a course that maps to something other than STAT 200 – Basic Statistics, or if you prefer scheduled live sessions and instructor-led pacing over a self-paced format.

Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined by UMT's Office of Academic Affairs.
