Project Management is the study of how to plan, organize, and complete work with a clear goal, deadline, and budget. In this course, you learn how projects move from an initial idea and business case through planning, execution, monitoring, and closure. It also covers the tools and decisions that help teams keep work on track and handle risks, costs, and changes.
The course is self-paced and online, built around video lessons, quizzes, an assignment, and a final exam. Quizzes count for 20% of your grade, the assignment for 30%, and the final exam for 50%. When you finish and your transcript is issued, that record is what UMT evaluates, and the course is recognized as MGT 450 – Project Management.
Project Management teaches you to define a goal, set a deadline and budget, and track work against both, which applies to most roles that involve coordinating people, money, or schedules. At UMT, the credit appears as MGT 450 – Project Management within business study, including the Associate of Business Administration and the Bachelor of Business Administration. Having this planning and risk-handling background on your record can support the business coursework you take toward either program.
After you complete the course, your transcript is sent to UMT, and UMT's registrar applies the credit as MGT 450 – Project Management. This is a named course equivalency, which maps to a specific catalog course, so your advisor can match it directly to your degree plan instead of treating it as general credit. UMT's Office of Academic Affairs reviews transfer credit against UMT course outcomes, with faculty or subject-matter expert review. Transfer credit and prior learning may total up to 90 credits, which is 75% of the degree.
This course suits working adults who already manage tasks at work and want a formal, transferable record of that knowledge before enrolling at UMT. It also fits degree-finishers and career changers who need a business course recognized quickly, and cost-conscious students, since each transferred credit is one you will not pay for at UMT's $390 per-credit rate. Transfer is capped at 90 credits (75%), so students expecting to transfer more than that will need to plan the remainder at UMT. It is not the right choice for anyone who needs a live, instructor-led class, because the course is self-paced and online.
UMT's Office of Academic Affairs evaluates transfer credit and prior learning against UMT course outcomes, with review by faculty or subject-matter experts. The figures below are from UMT's 2026-27 University Catalog.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined by UMT's Office of Academic Affairs.
