System Analysis and Design is the study of how to understand a business or software problem, gather requirements, and plan a system that solves it. It focuses on the steps used to move from a need or idea to a working system, including analysis, modeling, design, and testing different development approaches such as Agile, spiral, iterative, and V-shaped methods.
The course runs as a self-paced online class built around video lessons, with quizzes, assignments, and a final exam that together make up the grade: 25% Attendance · 25% Quizzes · 25% Assignments · 25% Final Exam. Students who pass the course receive transcript credit for System Analysis and Design (Computer Science 390), 3 credits, and that transcript credit is what UMT evaluates for its named equivalency, CST 400 – Systems Analysis and Design.
The course covers how to gather requirements, build UML, data flow, and use case diagrams, and compare Agile, spiral, iterative, and V-shaped development models, all skills that carry into business analysis and project work. At UMT, CST 400 – Systems Analysis and Design can apply toward the Associate of Business Administration or the Bachelor of Business Administration, so the same material supports both a degree requirement and day-to-day work that involves defining what a system should do.
After you complete the course, request that your transcript be sent to UMT. UMT's Office of Academic Affairs evaluates transfer credit against UMT course outcomes, with review by faculty or subject-matter experts, and if approved, the registrar applies the credit as CST 400 – Systems Analysis and Design. Because this is a named course equivalency, the credit appears under a specific UMT catalog course rather than as general elective credit, which makes it easier to fit into degree requirements. Total transfer credit is capped at 90 credits (75%), so plan your remaining UMT coursework with that ceiling in mind.
This route suits working adults who want a credit recognized by a specific UMT course, degree-finishers who need a few remaining credits, and students trying to keep tuition down, since each transferred credit avoids UMT's $390 per-credit rate (3 credits would otherwise cost $1,170). Because UMT accepts up to 90 credits (75%) in transfer, it works best for students who have already planned how much of their degree will come from outside coursework. It is not a good fit for students who need a live, instructor-led classroom, or for anyone who expects the credit to count without first confirming that their UMT program accepts CST 400 in their plan.
UMT's Office of Academic Affairs evaluates transfer credit and prior learning against UMT course outcomes, with review by faculty or subject-matter experts. The figures below are from UMT's 2026-27 University Catalog.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined by UMT's Office of Academic Affairs.
