Business Essentials is an introductory course that explains how businesses work and why they make the decisions they do. It covers core ideas such as supply and demand, business ownership, leadership, operations, ethics, and how companies respond to customers, workers, competitors, and government policy.
Business Essentials runs as a self-paced online course built around video lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Your final grade is weighted 25% Attendance, 25% Quizzes, 25% Assignments, and 25% Final Exam. Once you pass and the completed course appears on your transcript, that 3-credit result is what Woodmont College recognizes as a General Elective.
The course gives you a working grasp of supply and demand, opportunity cost, cost structures, and how firms respond to competitors and policy. Those ideas show up in pricing, product planning, and budgeting decisions, which makes them useful whether you are heading into the BS in Business or applying them in the BS in Technology. Students in the BS in Psychology will find the consumer decision-making material relevant to how people choose and why they respond to markets the way they do. Because the 3 credits count toward total hours and elective requirements, the knowledge also fills space in a degree plan that might otherwise go to an unrelated course.
After you finish Business Essentials, your UPI Study transcript is sent to Woodmont College. Woodmont's registrar applies the General Elective equivalency to the course, and the 3 credits count toward your total credit hours and your elective requirements. Your advisor can then confirm how those elective hours fit into your chosen program, such as the BS in Technology, BS in Business, or BS in Psychology. Transfer credit at Woodmont is capped at 84 credits (70%) of the degree, so plan any other transfer work with that ceiling in mind.
This course suits working adults who want credit for material they can use on the job, degree-finishers who need a few more elective hours to reach graduation, and career changers who want a business foundation before committing to a full business sequence. Cost-conscious students benefit as well, since each credit that transfers avoids Woodmont's $360 per-credit rate. Keep the transfer limit of 84 credits (70%) in mind when planning, because only so much of a degree can come from transfer. The course is not a good fit if you need a specific named requirement in your major, since it counts as a General Elective and not as a required course, or if you are looking for a hands-on, lab-based class.
Woodmont College recognizes UPI Study courses for credit in its undergraduate degrees under the signed articulation agreement. Each course below has the Woodmont course, general education requirement or general elective Woodmont's equivalency sheets assign it.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Students must be enrolled at Woodmont in good standing and meet course and program requirements. Woodmont is solely responsible for how it recognizes UPI Study courses.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Woodmont College.
