Computer Concepts and Applications is an introduction to how computers work, how people use them, and how technology affects everyday life and work. It covers the basic parts of a computer system, operating systems, files, networks, the Internet, online communication, and common security concerns. The course also introduces broader ideas such as the social and ethical effects of technology and how computers are used in different workplaces.
Students work through the course at their own pace in online video lessons, then show what they know through quizzes, an assignment, and a final exam. Grading is split evenly: 25% Attendance, 25% Quizzes, 25% Assignments, and 25% Final Exam. Once a student completes the course and the grade posts to the transcript, Woodmont College recognizes the credit as Technology Requirement (Systems & Solutions), a general-education equivalency.
The course covers how hardware, operating systems, files, networks, and the Internet fit together, along with common security risks. Those are the everyday tools for most office, clinical, and business settings, so the skills carry over quickly. At Woodmont, the credit fills a general-education slot in the BS in Technology, BS in Business, and BS in Psychology, so the time spent also moves a degree forward rather than sitting outside it.
After a student completes the course, the transcript from UPI Study is sent to Woodmont College for evaluation. Woodmont's registrar applies the credit as Technology Requirement (Systems & Solutions), which satisfies that general-education requirement in the student's degree plan. Students should confirm with their Woodmont advisor how the requirement appears in their specific program, such as the BS in Technology, BS in Business, or BS in Psychology. Woodmont accepts up to 84 transfer credits, which is 70% of the degree, so this three-credit course counts toward that ceiling.
This course suits adults returning to school, students finishing a Woodmont degree, and anyone who wants to fulfill a technology requirement without paying for a new seat in a classroom. Because Woodmont recognizes it as a general-education equivalency, it works best when the requirement it replaces is the one a student still needs. Transfer credit is capped at 84 credits, or 70% of the degree, so students should check how much of their remaining degree the cap leaves open. It is not a good fit for someone who expects hands-on programming or intensive lab work, since the course is an introduction that covers concepts and applications.
Woodmont College recognizes UPI Study courses for credit in its undergraduate degrees under the signed articulation agreement. Each course below has the Woodmont course, general education requirement or general elective Woodmont's equivalency sheets assign it.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Students must be enrolled at Woodmont in good standing and meet course and program requirements. Woodmont is solely responsible for how it recognizes UPI Study courses.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Woodmont College.
