Principles of Statistics is an introduction to how people collect, summarize, and interpret data. It covers the basic ideas behind surveys and experiments, how to read graphs and tables, and how to use probability to make sense of uncertainty. Students also learn how to work with common distributions, confidence intervals, and sample sizes.
Principles of Statistics is a self-paced online course built around video lessons, with graded quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Quizzes count for 20% of the grade, assignments for 30%, and the final exam for 50%, so the final exam carries the most weight. Once a student passes the course, the resulting transcript credit is what Woodmont evaluates for its Math Requirement (Systems & Solutions) general-education equivalency.
The course teaches students to collect, summarize, and interpret data, read graphs and tables, and use probability to reason about uncertainty. It also covers confidence intervals, sample sizes, and working in Excel to build charts and run calculations. At Woodmont, these skills fit naturally alongside the BS in Business and BS in Technology, where data interpretation comes up in planning and reporting, and the BS in Psychology, where reading research results is part of the work. Because the credit meets a general-education requirement, it also gives students a math-based foundation before they reach upper-level coursework.
After you finish the course, UPI Study sends your transcript to Woodmont College. Woodmont's registrar then applies the credit as Math Requirement (Systems & Solutions), a general-education equivalency, which means it can satisfy that gen-ed requirement in your Woodmont degree plan. Transfer credit is capped at 84 credits, or 70% of a degree, so this course counts toward that ceiling along with any other transferred work. Your advisor can confirm how the credit is placed in your specific program before you register for remaining courses.
This course suits students who want a statistics credit that counts toward Woodmont's general education without spending a full semester in a classroom, including working adults, students close to finishing a degree, and people changing careers who need a practical data foundation. It is also a sensible choice for students who want to keep costs down, since each transferred credit avoids Woodmont's $360 per-credit rate. It is less suitable for students whose degree plan specifies a particular statistics course in place of the general-education math slot, and for anyone who expects live instructor contact throughout the term. Confirm your degree plan with a Woodmont advisor before enrolling.

Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Students must be enrolled at Woodmont in good standing and meet course and program requirements. Woodmont is solely responsible for how it recognizes UPI Study courses.
