Calculus 3 online for college credit: every route compared

There is no AP, CLEP or DSST exam for Calculus 3, so the two routes are a college's own Calculus 3 class or a self-paced online course with a college credit recommendation. UPI Study's Calculus 3 (Math 365) is that kind of course: self-paced and online, with an NCCRS credit recommendation for 4 semester hours. Whichever route you choose, your college decides how the credit counts, so ask your registrar before you start.

Calculus 3

Multivariable calculus, self-paced: vectors in space, partial derivatives, multiple integrals and vector calculus.

On campus or online

A college's own Calculus 3

That college sets the tuition and the term dates, and the credit is on its transcript.

Credit by exam

AP, CLEP or DSST

No Calculus 3 exam: AP and CLEP stop at single-variable calculus, and DSST has no calculus exam.

Questions, answered

Is there a CLEP or AP exam for Calculus 3?

No. CLEP's math exams are Calculus, College Algebra, College Mathematics and Precalculus, and the CLEP Calculus exam covers what is “usually taught in a one-semester college course in calculus”. AP offers AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC, and College Board describes BC as “a first-semester college calculus course and the subsequent single-variable calculus course”. Calculus 3 is multivariable calculus, so neither exam covers it.

What do I need before Calculus 3?

UPI Study's Calculus 3 syllabus lists Math 165: Calculus 1 and Math 265: Calculus 2 (or equivalent) as prerequisites. We teach both, and you can try free Calculus 2 lessons first.

How long does UPI Study's Calculus 3 take?

It is self-paced: you can finish as fast or as slow as you want, with no minimum or maximum time. The syllabus lists 46 instructional hours across 7 chapters, the assignment and the final exam.
