Principles of Philosophy introduces the basic questions philosophers ask about knowledge, reality, morality, religion, and human freedom. It also shows how to read arguments carefully, spot weak reasoning, and compare different ways of thinking about the same issue. In a course like this, you study both classic ideas and the methods used to examine them.
Principles of Philosophy (Philosophy 200) is completed online at your own pace, with video-based lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. The course grade is based on 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% the final exam, so your transcript reflects the work you finish rather than seat time. When the transcript is sent to Indiana Tech, the course is reviewed for HUM EL – Humanities Elective credit, which counts as an elective in your degree plan.
This course builds skills in reading arguments, testing assumptions, and comparing competing viewpoints, which can help in jobs and everyday decisions that require clear judgment. At Indiana Tech, that credit applies as HUM EL – Humanities Elective, so it can support progress in programs such as the Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science by filling elective space while you work through required coursework.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent for review and Indiana Tech applies the credit as HUM EL – Humanities Elective if the coursework meets its transfer standards. At Indiana Tech, that means the course can count toward elective requirements and total credit hours in your degree plan, rather than toward a specific major course. Indiana Tech accepts transfer credit from regionally and nationally accredited institutions, and curriculum-related coursework with a grade of C or better is considered for credit. Keep in mind that transfer credit is limited to 90 credits, or 75% of the degree.
This course is a good fit if you are planning ahead for Indiana Tech and want a humanities elective that can move you toward degree completion without wasting credits. It may be especially useful if you are trying to stay within Indiana Tech’s transfer limit of up to 90 credits and need coursework that is likely to fit as HUM EL – Humanities Elective. It is not the best choice if you need a course that is tied to a specific major requirement rather than an elective slot.
Indiana Institute of Technology (Indiana Tech) is HLC-accredited and accepts transfer credit from both regionally and nationally accredited institutions. Curriculum-related coursework with a grade of C or better is considered for credit.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined solely by the receiving university's registrar.
