Savings = semester credits × $518: Strayer's $1,555 undergraduate tuition per course (strayer.edu, 13 Oct 2026) divided by the 3 semester hours one Strayer course equals. Strayer makes the final credit award.
Advanced Technical Writing is the study of how to explain information clearly in professional settings. It focuses on writing that helps people do something, understand a process, or make a decision, such as emails, memos, instructions, reports, proposals, resumes, and cover letters. The course also covers how to write for different audiences and how to handle ethical and legal issues in communication.
Advanced Technical Writing is a self-paced online course built around video lessons, quizzes, and an assignment sequence, with a final exam at the end. Grades are weighted 20% for quizzes, 30% for assignments, and 50% for the final exam. Once you pass with a grade of C or higher, the credit appears on your transcript and Strayer recognizes it as ELC000 – General Elective.
The course trains you to write emails, memos, instructions, reports, proposals, and resumes so that readers can act on them without follow-up questions. Those skills apply in nearly any job, and they carry into the writing you do for coursework in Strayer's Associate in Arts or Bachelor's degree programs. At Strayer, the credit fills an elective slot, so the time you spend on it also counts toward your degree.
After you finish the course, UPI Study sends your transcript to Strayer. Strayer's registrar reviews the record and applies the credit as ELC000 – General Elective, which fulfills an elective requirement rather than a named course. Strayer's 2026-2027 catalog accepts up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree, which is 70% of the degree total, so this course counts within that limit alongside any other transferred credit. Confirm the final credit total and how it fits your program with a Strayer advisor before you enroll.
This course suits working adults, people finishing a degree, and career changers who want a credit that counts toward graduation at a lower cost than many classes. Because Strayer recognizes it only as a general elective and caps transferred credit at 126 credits, it works best as one of the electives in a degree plan that still has open slots. It is not a fit if you need a specific technical writing or major-track course, since ELC000 does not satisfy a named requirement.
Strayer University signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (effective 15 June 2025). Its 2026-2027 catalog accepts credit reviewed by ACE and NCCRS, with a grade of C or higher, up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Strayer determines, in its sole discretion, which credits qualify under the agreement and its transfer credit policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Strayer University.
