Savings = semester credits × $518: Strayer's $1,555 undergraduate tuition per course (strayer.edu, 13 Oct 2026) divided by the 3 semester hours one Strayer course equals. Strayer makes the final credit award.
Fundamentals of Information Technology is an introduction to how computer systems support business work. It covers the basic parts of information systems, hardware and software, data and databases, networks, security, and how IT helps organizations make decisions and run processes. The course gives students a broad view of how computers, data, and business needs fit together.
The course is self-paced and delivered online, with video lessons that walk through hardware, software, data, networks, and security. Progress is measured through quizzes (20% of the final grade), assignments (30%), and a final exam (50%), so the final exam carries the most weight. Once you complete the course with a grade of C or higher, the transcript credit is eligible for review, and Strayer recognizes it as CIS106 – Intro to Information Technology.
The course explains how computers, data, and business processes connect, including binary representation, memory and storage, operating systems, and relational databases with SQL queries. Those skills apply directly to everyday work in offices and to the technical coursework that follows in later Strayer programs. Because the credit maps to CIS106 – Intro to Information Technology, it can count toward an Associate in Arts or a Bachelor's degree at Strayer rather than sitting as an unrelated elective.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Strayer University, where the registrar reviews it and applies the credit as CIS106 – Intro to Information Technology. That named equivalency means the course fills a specific catalog course in your Strayer degree plan, not a general elective slot, so check your program audit to confirm how it counts. Strayer accepts up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree under its 2026-2027 catalog, so this course counts against that ceiling along with any other transfer credit you bring in.
This course suits students who want a recognized Strayer course in place of paying for that course directly, including working adults, students closing out a degree, and people moving into IT or business roles from another field. Because Strayer caps transfer credit at 126 credits (70% of a bachelor's degree), students who already have a large share of their degree completed should check how this credit fits their remaining requirements. It is not a good fit for anyone who needs a hands-on programming or lab-based course, since the material is an introduction to systems and concepts rather than applied coding.
Strayer University signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (effective 15 June 2025). Its 2026-2027 catalog accepts credit reviewed by ACE and NCCRS, with a grade of C or higher, up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Strayer determines, in its sole discretion, which credits qualify under the agreement and its transfer credit policies.
