Savings = semester credits × $518: Strayer's $1,555 undergraduate tuition per course (strayer.edu, 13 Oct 2026) divided by the 3 semester hours one Strayer course equals. Strayer makes the final credit award.
Introduction to Operating Systems is a course about the software that manages a computer’s basic operations and lets people use hardware and applications effectively. It covers how operating systems handle tasks such as starting up the machine, running programs, managing memory, coordinating processes, and connecting with devices, storage, and networks.
The course runs online at your own pace and is built around video lessons that cover startup, process management, memory, and device handling, followed by quizzes, an assignment, and a final exam. Your grade is weighted evenly across four parts: 25% Attendance, 25% Quizzes, 25% Assignments, and 25% Final Exam. A completed course with a grade of C or higher produces the transcript credit that Strayer recognizes as CIS255 – Operating Systems or CIS000 – General Elective.
Knowing how an operating system schedules tasks, allocates memory, and manages storage helps you diagnose slow machines, make sense of system settings, and talk clearly with IT staff. Those skills carry into most technical and office roles. Because the credit lands as a named Strayer course, it can count toward an Associate in Arts or a Bachelor's degree rather than sitting outside your program as unrelated coursework.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Strayer University, where the registrar reviews it and applies the credit as CIS255 – Operating Systems or CIS000 – General Elective. Because this is a named equivalency tied to a catalog code, the credit fills a specific place in your degree plan rather than only adding general hours. Strayer's 2026-2027 catalog accepts up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree, which is 70% of the degree, so this course counts within that ceiling along with any other transfer credit you bring.
This course suits working adults who want a lower-cost way to earn degree credit, people closing out a Strayer degree who need a few more credits, and career changers who want a foundation in computing before taking on more advanced courses. Three credits at Strayer's $518 per-credit rate is a useful comparison point against a standard course. It is not a good fit if you need the credit to count with a grade below C, since Strayer's transfer acceptance requires C or higher. It also does not suit anyone who cannot keep up with a steady pace, because attendance makes up a quarter of the grade.
Strayer University signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (effective 15 June 2025). Its 2026-2027 catalog accepts credit reviewed by ACE and NCCRS, with a grade of C or higher, up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Strayer determines, in its sole discretion, which credits qualify under the agreement and its transfer credit policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Strayer University.
