Savings = semester credits × $518: Strayer's $1,555 undergraduate tuition per course (strayer.edu, 13 Oct 2026) divided by the 3 semester hours one Strayer course equals. Strayer makes the final credit award.
Introduction to Sociology is the study of how people live together in groups, how social rules and institutions shape behavior, and why societies develop patterns such as inequality, deviance, and cultural differences. It looks at everyday life through a social lens, asking how family, school, work, government, race, gender, and other forces influence individual choices and opportunities.
Introduction to Sociology is a self-paced online course built around video lessons, with quizzes and an assignment along the way and a final exam at the end. Grades are weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the exam carries the most weight. Once you complete the course and your transcript shows the credit, Strayer University recognizes it as SOC101 – The Story of Us: Embracing Diversity and Collaboration.
The course covers culture, socialization, and social structure, along with how institutions like family, education, and healthcare shape individual choices. Those ideas carry into work that involves teams, customers, public services, or community programs. At Strayer, the credit counts toward Associate in Arts and Bachelor's degree programs, so the same material can contribute to a degree you are already pursuing.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Strayer University. Strayer reviews the credit and applies it as SOC101 – The Story of Us: Embracing Diversity and Collaboration, a named course equivalency in its catalog, which is the strongest form of transfer recognition. That means the credit appears as a specific course in your degree audit rather than as general elective credit. Transfer credit at Strayer is capped at 126 credits, or 70% of the degree, so plan your remaining coursework with that ceiling in mind.
This course suits adults who are balancing work or family and need a flexible, self-paced option, as well as students close to finishing a degree who need one more social science credit. Cost-conscious students may also find it useful, since each transferred credit can reduce the number of courses taken at Strayer's rate of $518 per credit. Because Strayer recognizes the course as a named equivalency and accepts up to 126 credits toward a bachelor's degree, it fits best for students who have room in their plan for transfer credit. It is not a good match for students who need a live, instructor-led class, or who need a grade below C to satisfy a requirement, since Strayer accepts credit only with a grade of C or higher.
Strayer University signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (effective 15 June 2025). Its 2026-2027 catalog accepts credit reviewed by ACE and NCCRS, with a grade of C or higher, up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Strayer determines, in its sole discretion, which credits qualify under the agreement and its transfer credit policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Strayer University.
