Principles of Marketing is the study of how businesses understand customer needs and turn that understanding into products, pricing, promotion, and distribution decisions. It covers how markets are segmented, how buyers make decisions, how organizations buy, and how outside factors such as law, ethics, global markets, and technology affect marketing choices.
Principles of Marketing is a self-paced online course built on video lessons, quizzes, an assignment, and a final exam. Grades are weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the final exam carries the most weight. Passing with a grade of C or higher produces a transcript entry that Strayer recognizes as MKT100 – Principles of Marketing.
The course covers how businesses segment markets, how buyers decide, how organizations purchase, and how pricing, promotion, and distribution follow from customer understanding. It also addresses ethics, corporate social responsibility, global markets, and AI-driven analytics. At Strayer, MKT100 can count toward an Associate in Arts or a Bachelor's degree, so these skills apply to coursework in those programs as well as to day-to-day work in sales, operations, or small business.
After you finish the course, the institution that issued your transcript sends it to Strayer University. Strayer's registrar reviews the record and applies the credit as MKT100 – Principles of Marketing, which is a named course equivalency in the catalog rather than a general elective. In your degree plan, that means the course is recognized as a specific Strayer course, so it can count toward the requirement it matches. Strayer's 2026-2027 catalog accepts credit reviewed by ACE and NCCRS, with a grade of C or higher, up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree, so the course counts within that ceiling.
This course suits students who want to move through a Strayer degree with fewer courses to complete, including adults returning to school, students finishing a degree, and people changing careers who need a foundation in how markets work. Because Strayer recognizes the course as a named equivalency and accepts up to 126 credits (70%) in transfer, it helps students who want a clear, catalog-matched course. It is not a good fit for anyone who needs a grade below C to count, since that grade will not transfer, or for anyone who has already reached the 126-credit transfer ceiling.
Strayer University signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (effective 15 June 2025). Its 2026-2027 catalog accepts credit reviewed by ACE and NCCRS, with a grade of C or higher, up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Strayer determines, in its sole discretion, which credits qualify under the agreement and its transfer credit policies.
