Savings = semester credits × $518: Strayer's $1,555 undergraduate tuition per course (strayer.edu, 13 Oct 2026) divided by the 3 semester hours one Strayer course equals. Strayer makes the final credit award.
Principles of Philosophy introduces the basic questions philosophers ask about knowledge, reality, morality, religion, and human freedom. It also shows how to read arguments carefully, spot weak reasoning, and compare different ways of thinking about the same issue. In a course like this, you study both classic ideas and the methods used to examine them.
The course is self-paced and online, so you move through the video lessons on your own schedule. Your progress is measured by quizzes and an assignment, with a final exam at the end, weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam. A completed course with a grade of C or higher produces the transcript credit that Strayer recognizes as PHI201 – Thinking it Through.
Much of the course involves identifying an argument's premises, testing whether they hold, and noticing where reasoning breaks down. Those habits carry into writing reports, evaluating claims at work, and working through disagreements with colleagues or family. At Strayer, the resulting credit can count toward programs such as the Associate in Arts and the Bachelor's degree, so the skills and the credit both remain useful after you finish.
Once you complete the course, your transcript goes to Strayer, where the registrar reviews it and applies PHI201 – Thinking it Through. That recognition is a named course equivalency, which means the credit maps to a specific course code in Strayer's catalog rather than sitting as general elective hours. You can therefore plan it directly against your degree requirements. Strayer's 2026-2027 catalog accepts credit reviewed by ACE and NCCRS, with a grade of C or higher, up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree, so check how much of that ceiling you have already used before enrolling.
This course fits students who already have some college credit and want to apply it toward a Strayer degree, including working adults who need a flexible schedule and cost-conscious students who would rather use credit they have already earned. Strayer caps transferred credit at 126 quarter hours, so the course makes the most sense for someone with room left under that limit. It is not a good match for students who need a live, instructor-led class with scheduled discussion, or for anyone whose grade will fall below a C.
Strayer University signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (effective 15 June 2025). Its 2026-2027 catalog accepts credit reviewed by ACE and NCCRS, with a grade of C or higher, up to 126 quarter hours toward a bachelor's degree.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Strayer determines, in its sole discretion, which credits qualify under the agreement and its transfer credit policies.
