Computer Concepts and Applications is an introduction to how computers work, how people use them, and how technology affects everyday life and work. It covers the basic parts of a computer system, operating systems, files, networks, the Internet, online communication, and common security concerns. The course also introduces broader ideas such as the social and ethical effects of technology and how computers are used in different workplaces.
You work through the course online at your own pace, using video lessons, quizzes, an assignment, and a final exam. Attendance, quizzes, assignments, and the final exam each count for 25% of the grade. Completing the course with a C or better produces transcript credit that UAG recognizes as CS105 – Introduction to Computer Applications (credit for only one of Current Trends in Computer Science and IT and Computer Concepts and Applications).
The course covers how hardware, operating systems, files, networks, and online security work together, and that background helps in day-to-day computer use at work and at home. At UAG, the resulting CS105 credit serves as an introductory computing credit for students working toward the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or the Bachelor of Business Administration.
