Current Trends in Computer Science and IT is a broad introduction to how modern information technology is used in organizations. It covers both the technical side, such as databases, SQL, application design, and data analytics, and the managerial side, such as IT leadership, decision support systems, and how technology supports business strategy. The course also introduces newer areas like artificial intelligence, machine learning, IoT, big data, and blockchain, with attention to their practical uses and limitations.
The course is self-paced and online, built around video lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Each of the four components counts for 25% of the grade: attendance, quizzes, assignments, and the final exam. When you complete it with a passing transcript record, UAG recognizes the credit as CS105 – Introduction to Computer Applications, but only one of Current Trends in Computer Science and IT or Computer Concepts and Applications can be credited.
The course covers databases and SQL, application design, data analytics, IT leadership, and decision support systems. At UAG, that material fits naturally alongside the Bachelor of Business Administration, where technology's role in business strategy and decision-making matters, and alongside the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, where database and systems content supports later technical work. Where the CS105 credit lands depends on your individual degree plan, so confirm placement with your UAG advisor.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to UAG, and the registrar applies CS105 – Introduction to Computer Applications as the equivalent of this course. The credit requires a grade of C or better, and it counts for only one of Current Trends in Computer Science and IT or Computer Concepts and Applications. Because this is a named equivalency tied to a specific catalog code, it shows up as CS105 on your UAG record. Total transfer credit at UAG cannot exceed 90 credits (75%), and capstone courses must be taken at UAG.
This course suits adults finishing a UAG degree who already have some transferable credit and want to cover a computer applications requirement at a lower cost, since UAG charges $305 per credit. Because UAG grants one equivalency, you should plan on CS105 from either this course or Computer Concepts and Applications, not both. It is a broad survey rather than an in-depth technical course, so students who need detailed programming instruction will be better served by a dedicated course. Keep the 90-credit (75%) transfer ceiling in mind as well, and count your existing transfer credits before adding more.
University of Arkansas Grantham, part of the University of Arkansas System, has been accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) since 1961 and accepts ACE-recommended credit. Transfer credit is awarded course-by-course for equivalent coursework with a grade of C or better; capstone courses must be taken at UAG.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined solely by the receiving university's registrar.
