Intro to Biology 1 is an introduction to how living things are built, how they work, and how scientists study them. It covers the basic chemistry of life, cells, energy use, genetics, and the processes that allow organisms to grow, reproduce, and respond to their environment.
Intro to Biology 1 is a self-paced online course built around video lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Quizzes count for 20% of the grade, assignments for 30%, and the final exam for 50%, so the exam carries the most weight. Passing the course produces a 3-credit transcript entry that Pathways College recognizes as BIO101 – Introduction to Living Systems.
The course covers how living things are organized, how biological molecules work, how cells use energy, and how scientists test ideas, so the reasoning carries into health, environmental, and laboratory-adjacent work. At Pathways, the 3 credits land as BIO101 in the catalog, which means they can count toward the science coursework in an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts. Students who keep the credit within their plan can put that time toward the requirements that remain.
After you finish the course, UPI Study sends your transcript to Pathways College. The Pathways registrar reviews it and applies the course as BIO101 – Introduction to Living Systems, which is a named course equivalency and the strongest form of transfer recognition the college offers. That status lets you count the credit toward a specific catalog course in your degree plan rather than as general elective credit. Pathways accepts up to 90 credits (75%) in transfer, so this course counts against that ceiling along with any other transferred work.
This course suits students who plan to finish a Pathways credential and want to earn credits at a lower cost before enrolling, including working adults who need flexible scheduling and students returning to finish a degree. Because the course maps to a named equivalency, the credit is easier to place than a general elective, though its value still depends on the requirements in the student's own degree plan. It is not a good fit for students who need a lab-based biology sequence or who expect the course to cover more than the credit ceiling allows, since Pathways accepts up to 90 transfer credits (75%) overall.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
