Business Essentials is an introductory course that explains how businesses work and why they make the decisions they do. It covers core ideas such as supply and demand, business ownership, leadership, operations, ethics, and how companies respond to customers, workers, competitors, and government policy.
Business Essentials is a self-paced online course built on video lessons, with quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Your grade is weighted in four equal parts: 25% Attendance, 25% Quizzes, 25% Assignments, and 25% Final Exam. Once you complete the course and the credit posts to your transcript, Pathways College recognizes it as BUS101 – Introduction to Business.
The course explains supply and demand, opportunity cost, and how businesses respond to customers, competitors, and government policy. Those ideas help with household budgeting, job decisions, and reading news about prices and interest rates. At Pathways, the BUS101 equivalency places this learning in a catalog course that can be used within programs such as an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts.
After you finish Business Essentials, your transcript is sent to Pathways College. The Pathways registrar then applies the credit as BUS101 – Introduction to Business, because the course is a named equivalent under the articulation agreement Pathways signed with UPI Study in July 2025. That named recognition means the credit fills a specific catalog course, which affects how it appears in your degree plan. Transfer credit at Pathways is capped at 90 credits (75%) in total, so review your full transfer picture before you enroll.
This course suits people who want a business foundation at lower cost, including working adults who study around a job, degree-finishers who need one more business credit, and career changers testing whether business is the right field. Pathways accepts up to 90 credits (75%) in transfer, so this course should be planned alongside any other transfer work to stay within that limit. It is not a good fit for students who need an advanced economics or finance course, since this is an introductory course that covers the basics.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
