Business Law is the study of the legal rules that affect how businesses are formed, operated, and managed. It covers topics like contracts, torts, court procedures, government regulation, employment issues, and the legal responsibilities of business owners and managers. In simple terms, it helps you understand what businesses can do, what they must do, and what happens when legal problems arise.
Business Law (Business 250) is a 3-credit, self-paced online course built around video lessons, quizzes, and an assignment component. Your grade is weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the final exam carries the most weight and steady work through the lessons matters throughout. When you complete the course, the transcript credit it produces is the credit Pathways College recognizes as BUS221 – Business Law.
Business Law teaches you how contracts, employment rules, and business organization structures work in practice, and how to read the documents that govern them. Those skills apply whether you own a business, manage staff, or simply need to understand the agreements you sign. Because this credit maps to BUS221 at Pathways, it can count toward a degree plan in the Associate degree or Bachelor of Arts programs, so the knowledge you gain also moves you closer to a credential.
After you finish Business Law, your transcript is sent to Pathways College, and the Pathways registrar applies the course as BUS221 – Business Law. Because this is a named course equivalency, the credit lands on your Pathways record under a specific catalog code, which means your degree plan can reference it directly. Transfer credit at Pathways is capped at 90 credits, so this course counts against that ceiling along with any other transferred work.
This course suits students who want a recognized Pathways credit without sitting in a classroom, including working adults, students finishing a degree they started elsewhere, and people switching careers who need a practical grounding in business law. Pathways recognizes it as a named equivalency, which is the most direct form of transfer credit, and up to 90 credits (75%) can transfer in total. It is less suited to students who need live instruction or who expect a course with no final exam, since half the grade rests on that exam.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
