Chemistry I is an introduction to the substances that make up matter and the changes they undergo. It covers the structure of atoms, how elements combine to form molecules and compounds, how chemical reactions are balanced and measured, and how energy, bonding, gases, and physical properties fit into that picture.
Chemistry I is delivered as a self-paced online course built from video lessons, with quizzes and assignments along the way and a final exam at the end. Your grade is weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the exam carries the most weight. Once you complete the course, the resulting transcript credit is what Pathways College recognizes as General Elective (Pathways).
The course trains you to read the periodic table for trends in ionization energy, electronegativity, and atomic radius, and to use those trends to predict how substances will behave. You also practice balancing equations, calculating yields, and converting units, which show up in lab work, health and safety roles, and technical jobs. At Pathways, this credit counts toward the total hours and elective requirements of programs such as the Associate degree and the Bachelor of Arts.
After you finish the course, UPI Study sends your transcript to Pathways College, and the Pathways registrar applies the credit as General Elective (Pathways). That means the course reduces the elective hours you still need to complete, but it does not substitute for a named major or general education course. Pathways allows up to 90 credits to transfer, so this course uses part of that total, and you should check your remaining credit count against the ceiling before enrolling.
This course suits students who want to move toward a Pathways degree at lower cost, including working adults returning to finish a credential and people switching careers who need a science credit on record. Because the credit lands as an elective, it helps most when you still have open elective slots to fill, and it is subject to Pathways' transfer limit of up to 90 credits (75%). It is not a good fit if you need a chemistry course that fulfills a specific major or general education requirement, since this credit is recognized only as a General Elective (Pathways).
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
