Computer Concepts and Applications is an introduction to how computers work, how people use them, and how technology affects everyday life and work. It covers the basic parts of a computer system, operating systems, files, networks, the Internet, online communication, and common security concerns. The course also introduces broader ideas such as the social and ethical effects of technology and how computers are used in different workplaces.
Computer Concepts and Applications is a self-paced online course. You work through the video lessons on your own schedule, complete the quizzes and assignment, and sit for the final exam, with attendance, quizzes, assignments, and the final exam each counting for 25% of your grade. When you finish and the credit posts to your transcript, Pathways can review it and apply the course as General Elective (Pathways).
The course covers hardware, operating systems, files, networks, the Internet, online communication, and security, which are basic skills that apply across many kinds of work. It also looks at how computers are used in different workplaces, so the material gives you context for whatever field you are in. Because the credit counts toward total hours and elective requirements, these skills can move you closer to an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts at Pathways without adding an unrelated class.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Pathways College. The Pathways registrar applies the credit as General Elective (Pathways), an elective equivalency that counts toward total credit hours and elective requirements. For your degree plan, this means the 3 credits reduce the electives you still need in an Associate degree or Bachelor of Arts, but they do not fill a named major or general education course. Up to 90 credits (75%) may transfer to Pathways, so this course counts toward that ceiling along with any other transfer credit you bring.
This course suits adults who already have some college work and want it to count toward a Pathways degree instead of repeating content they have covered. Cost-conscious students may find it useful because elective credit reduces the number of paid Pathways courses they need, which is charged at $206 per credit. It is not the right choice for anyone who needs this course to satisfy a specific major or general education requirement, since Pathways recognizes it only as a General Elective, and transfer is capped at 90 credits, or 75% of the degree.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
