Discrete Mathematics is the study of math built from distinct, countable pieces rather than continuous quantities. It focuses on topics such as logic, sets, counting, probability, sequences, and proof methods, which are widely used in computer science, engineering, and other fields that depend on precise reasoning.
Discrete Mathematics (Maths 230) is a 4-credit, self-paced online course built on video lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Grades are split evenly across attendance, quizzes, assignments, and the final exam, at 25% each. When you pass, the course appears on your UPI Study transcript, and Pathways College recognizes it as a General Elective (Pathways) equivalency that counts toward total credit hours and elective requirements.
The course covers logic, sets, counting, probability, sequences, and proof methods, which are the habits of precise reasoning used in computer science and engineering. Graph theory and Boolean algebra show up in circuit design and software work, so the skills carry into technical jobs as well as further study. At Pathways, the 4 credits go toward elective requirements in programs such as the Associate degree and the Bachelor of Arts, so the coursework contributes to finishing a degree rather than sitting idle.
After you complete the course, your UPI Study transcript is sent to Pathways College, and Pathways's registrar applies the credit as a General Elective (Pathways). In practice, that means the 4 credits count toward your total hours and open elective requirements in your Pathways degree plan. Pathways accepts up to 90 transfer credits (75%) in total, so this course counts against that ceiling along with any other transferred work. Pathways also accepts elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits, under its articulation agreement with UPI Study.
This course suits students who are returning to school after time away, finishing a degree that still has open elective slots, or switching into a technical field and wanting a foundation in formal reasoning. Because Pathways treats it as a General Elective, it fills elective space rather than a specific major or general education requirement, so it is most useful when that is the gap you need to close. Students who need the course to satisfy a named major requirement or a general education category should check their Pathways degree plan first, since this equivalency does not do that. Anyone who expects a live, instructor-paced class with set meeting times will find the self-paced format a different experience.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 4 credits to Pathways College.
