Environmental Science is the study of how natural systems work and how people affect them. It brings together biology, ecology, chemistry, and earth science to explain topics like ecosystems, water resources, climate change, biodiversity, food production, and human health. The subject focuses on understanding environmental problems and using evidence to think through realistic solutions.
Environmental Science (ENV 121) is a self-paced online course built from video lessons, with quizzes and an assignment along the way and a final exam at the end. Grades are weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the exam carries the most weight. When you pass, UPI Study issues the transcript credit, and Pathways College recognizes that credit as GEO101 – Introduction to Environmental Science.
The course trains you to read environmental problems through biology, ecology, chemistry, and earth science, then test possible fixes against evidence. Those habits carry into work in agriculture, energy, waste management, and city planning, where sustainability decisions depend on tradeoffs. At Pathways, the credit lands as GEO101, a course code in the catalog, so it can count toward an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts without being treated as a generic elective.
After you finish ENV 121, your UPI Study transcript goes to Pathways College, where the registrar reviews it and applies the credit as GEO101 – Introduction to Environmental Science. Because this is a named course equivalency, it maps to one specific catalog course, which makes it easier to plan your degree sequence than a general credit would be. Pathways accepts up to 90 credits (75%) in transfer, so this course counts toward that total along with any other transfer work. Confirm with a Pathways advisor how GEO101 fits into your specific program before you enroll.
This course suits students who want a recognized Pathways course at a lower cost per credit and can work through material on their own schedule. Working adults, students finishing a degree, and people changing fields often fit well, especially because GEO101 is a named equivalency rather than a general transfer credit. Keep the 90-credit transfer ceiling in mind when planning, since it caps how much of your total degree can come from transfer. It is not the right choice if you need an instructor-led class or a course that matches a different catalog code at Pathways.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 1 credits to Pathways College.
