Ethics in Technology looks at how computers, data, networks, and digital systems affect people, businesses, and society. It covers both the technical side of cybersecurity and the ethical and legal questions that come with privacy, cybercrime, data use, and emerging technologies like AI and IoT.
Ethics in Technology is a self-paced online course. You work through video lessons on your own schedule, then complete quizzes, an assignment, and a final exam, with grades weighted 25% Attendance, 25% Quizzes, 25% Assignments, and 25% Final Exam. Completing the course produces a transcript entry for 3 credits, which Pathways College recognizes as General Elective (Pathways).
The course examines how data collection, breaches, phishing, and tools like AI and IoT affect people and organizations, and those questions come up in many workplaces that handle customer or employee information. At Pathways, the 3 credits fill an elective slot in an Associate degree or Bachelor of Arts plan, so the coursework adds to your credit total while you pursue a major or general education requirement. A transcripted course in security and data ethics also gives you a concrete reference point when you discuss roles in IT, compliance, or operations.
Once you finish Ethics in Technology, your transcript is sent to Pathways College. The Pathways registrar applies the course as General Elective (Pathways), an elective equivalency worth 3 credits that counts toward your total credit hours and elective requirements. Because it is recognized as an elective rather than a named course, it will not replace a specific major or general education course in your plan. Transfer credit at Pathways is limited to 90 credits, which is 75% of the degree, and this course counts toward that ceiling.
This course suits people who already hold credit from UPI Study and want it to count toward a Pathways Associate degree or Bachelor of Arts, particularly working adults fitting study around jobs and career changers moving into data-heavy fields. Because Pathways recognizes it as a General Elective, it reduces remaining elective hours rather than satisfying a named requirement, and total transfer is capped at 90 credits. It is not the right choice if you need a course that fulfills a specific major or general education requirement at Pathways, or if you expect a hands-on technical lab course.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
