Healthcare Finance and Budgeting looks at how money moves through healthcare organizations and how those organizations plan, track, and report their finances. It covers the basics of accounting, budgeting, revenue, costs, payer systems, and the rules that affect financial decisions in hospitals, clinics, and other health settings.
The course is self-paced and online, with video lessons that cover how money moves through healthcare organizations, along with quizzes and assignments and a final exam. Your grade is built from four equal parts: 25% attendance, 25% quizzes, 25% assignments, and 25% final exam. When you complete the course, the 3-credit transcript entry is recognized at Pathways College as General Elective (Pathways), an elective equivalency that counts toward total credit hours and elective requirements.
Reading financial statements, comparing costs against revenue, and building a budget are useful whether you work in a hospital, a clinic, or another health setting. At Pathways, these 3 credits fill an elective slot in programs such as the Associate degree or the Bachelor of Arts. That means the course adds to your credit total without replacing a required course in your major or general education.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Pathways College. The Pathways registrar applies the credit as General Elective (Pathways), which means it counts toward your total credit hours and your elective requirements rather than as a direct match to a specific Pathways course. Your degree plan will still need its required courses, so review your remaining requirements with an advisor. Pathways accepts up to 90 transfer credits, which is 75% of the degree, and at the $206 per-credit rate, these 3 credits represent $618 in tuition.
This course suits working adults who already handle budgets or reporting, people finishing a degree who need elective credit, and career changers who want a working understanding of healthcare money matters before they commit to a full program. It is also a practical option for cost-conscious students, since its elective recognition lets it count toward a Pathways degree. It is not the right choice for someone who needs a credit to satisfy a specific Pathways major or general education requirement, because this course is recognized only as an elective. Students who already have many transfer credits should also check the 90-credit transfer ceiling before adding more.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
