Introduction to Psychology is the study of how people think, feel, learn, and behave. It covers the main ideas and methods psychologists use to understand topics such as memory, development, sensation, consciousness, emotion, motivation, and mental health. You also learn how psychology developed as a field and how researchers study behavior and mental processes.
Introduction to Psychology is a self-paced online course built around video lessons, with quizzes and assignments along the way and a final exam at the end. Grades are weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the final exam carries the most weight. Once you complete the course, the resulting transcript credit is what Pathways College recognizes as PSY101 – Principles of Psychology.
The course trains you to read psychology research critically, judge how well a claim about behavior is supported, and apply learning theories to situations you face at work or at home. Those habits carry into the upper-level writing and analysis expected in a Bachelor of Arts, and they also serve students working toward an Associate degree who want a general foundation in human behavior. Because the credit lands as PSY101 at Pathways, it counts as a named course in your plan rather than as loose elective hours.
After you finish the course, your institution sends an official transcript to Pathways College. The Pathways registrar then applies the credit as PSY101 – Principles of Psychology, which is a named course equivalency in the Pathways catalog. Because it is named, you can check it against your degree plan as a specific course, not only as general credit. Pathways accepts up to 90 credits (75%) in transfer, so this course counts toward that ceiling along with any other transfer credit you bring.
This course suits adults who want to finish a degree at a lower cost, students who have some college credit and need to close a gap, and people switching careers who need a recognized psychology course on their record. Because Pathways recognizes it by name and caps transfer at 90 credits (75%), it works best for students who have room in that limit and want a course that maps directly to a catalog code. It is not the right choice if you need a psychology course with a different scope than the one described here, or if you cannot finish a self-paced course on your own schedule with a graded final exam.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
