Macroeconomics studies the economy as a whole rather than individual buyers or firms. It looks at topics such as GDP, inflation, unemployment, economic growth, trade, and the effects of government policy on overall economic conditions. The course also compares major ways economists explain the economy, including Keynesian and neoclassical perspectives.
The course is self-paced and online, built around video lessons, quizzes, and assignments, and it ends with a final exam. Your grade is weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the exam counts for the most. Completing the course produces the transcript credit that Pathways recognizes as BUS211 – Principles of Macroeconomics.
Macroeconomics teaches you to read GDP, inflation, and unemployment data and to judge how government policy might move those numbers, which helps with budgeting, job decisions, and following economic news with some skepticism. At Pathways, the credit lands as BUS211 in an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts, so the reasoning you practice here carries straight into the economics-related coursework those programs require.
After you complete the course, the transcript is sent to Pathways College, and the Pathways registrar applies the credit as BUS211 – Principles of Macroeconomics. Because this is a named course equivalency, the credit maps to a specific catalog course rather than sitting as unassigned elective credit, which means it can count toward that requirement in your degree plan. Pathways accepts up to 90 transfer credits, or 75% of the degree, so that ceiling is the figure to track as you map out your remaining coursework. Check with the Pathways registrar on how BUS211 fits your specific program before you enroll.
This course fits students who want to transfer the credit into a Pathways degree and would rather not pay for an introductory economics course twice, including working adults finishing a degree and students watching their tuition. Because the credit is a named equivalency, you can plan around a specific catalog course instead of hoping an elective absorbs it. It is a weaker fit for anyone who needs a live instructor or a fixed class meeting schedule, or who has already used much of the 90-credit transfer allowance.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
