Marketing Research is the study of how businesses collect and use information about customers, competitors, and markets to make better decisions. It covers how people choose products, how to segment a market, and how to gather and interpret data through surveys, interviews, experiments, and existing reports. Students also learn how to turn that data into conclusions that can guide marketing strategy.
The course is self-paced and online. You work through video lessons on your own schedule, complete quizzes and assignments, and sit for a final exam. Your grade is weighted 25% attendance, 25% quizzes, 25% assignments, and 25% final exam. Once you complete it, the credit is recognized at Pathways as General Elective (Pathways), an elective equivalency that counts toward total credit hours and elective requirements.
Marketing Research teaches you to gather information about customers and markets, judge whether a survey or existing report is trustworthy, and turn findings into a recommendation someone can act on. Those habits apply well beyond marketing departments, including in sales planning, product work, and any role where decisions should rest on evidence. At Pathways, the credit fills an elective slot in programs such as the Associate degree or Bachelor of Arts, so the coursework you do now still moves your degree forward.
After you finish Marketing Research, your transcript is sent from UPI Study to Pathways College. Pathways's registrar applies the course as General Elective (Pathways), an elective equivalency. In your degree plan, the 3 credits count toward total credit hours and elective requirements in either the Associate degree or the Bachelor of Arts. Transfer credit at Pathways is limited to 90 credits, or 75% of the total, so count this course against that ceiling when you map out what remains.
This course suits people finishing a Pathways degree who need elective credit, such as working adults fitting study around a job, or career changers who want a grounding in how businesses use data. Because it is recognized as a General Elective, it helps with total credit hours and elective requirements, though it will not satisfy a specific required course by itself. Transfer credit at Pathways is capped at 90 credits (75%), so plan the rest of your degree with that ceiling in mind. It is not the right choice if you need a course specifically required for your major or general education, or if you want a live class with scheduled meeting times.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
