Principles of Management is the study of how organizations are planned, organized, led, and improved. It introduces the work managers do, the difference between management and leadership, and the main ideas that have shaped modern business practice. Students also learn how teams, structure, and change affect how an organization performs.
The course is self-paced and delivered online. You work through video lessons on your own schedule, complete quizzes and an assignment, and finish with a final exam, with grades weighted 25% Attendance, 25% Quizzes, 25% Assignments, and 25% Final Exam. Once the course is completed and transcript credit is issued, Pathways College recognizes it as General Elective (Pathways), an elective equivalency that counts toward total credit hours and elective requirements.
The course teaches how managers plan, organize, lead, and improve work, and how management differs from leadership, which applies to most jobs that involve coordinating people, budgets, or projects. At Pathways, the 3 credits land as a general elective, so they can fill elective slots in an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts plan. The skills carry into your job while the credit moves your degree forward.
Once you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Pathways College, which is an active transfer partner of UPI Study. The Pathways registrar applies the credit as General Elective (Pathways), so the 3 credits count toward your total credit hours and elective requirements in either an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts. Transfer credit at Pathways is limited to 90 credits, which is 75% of the degree, so this course counts toward that ceiling along with any other transferred work.
This course suits people who want a practical management foundation and a lower-cost way to earn credit toward a Pathways degree, such as working adults returning to finish a degree or career changers who want recognized credit instead of starting over. Because it transfers as an elective, it works best for students who have open elective slots in their plan. It is not the right choice for anyone who needs a specific major or general education requirement filled, since Pathways recognizes it only as General Elective. Transfer credit is capped at 90 credits (75%), so students already close to that limit should confirm their remaining room before enrolling.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
