Principles of Marketing is the study of how businesses understand customer needs and turn that understanding into products, pricing, promotion, and distribution decisions. It covers how markets are segmented, how buyers make decisions, how organizations buy, and how outside factors such as law, ethics, global markets, and technology affect marketing choices.
Principles of Marketing is a self-paced online course made up of video lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Quizzes count for 20% of the grade, assignments for 30%, and the final exam for 50%, so the exam carries the most weight. Completing the course produces transcript credit that Pathways College recognizes as BUS241 – Principles of Marketing.
The course teaches how businesses segment markets, how buyers reach decisions, and how product, pricing, promotion, and distribution choices follow from customer needs. Those habits carry into sales, retail, operations, and small business work. At Pathways, the credit lands as BUS241 within programs such as the Associate degree or the Bachelor of Arts, so the same material supports both your coursework and your job.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Pathways College, where the registrar applies it as BUS241 – Principles of Marketing. Because this is a named course equivalency, the credit maps to a specific catalog code rather than a general elective, which lets you check its place in your degree plan before you enroll. Up to 90 credits (75%) may transfer to Pathways, so this three-credit course counts toward that ceiling. Confirm with Pathways how BUS241 fills requirements in your chosen program, since placement depends on the degree you pursue.
This course suits people who want a recognized marketing credit at a lower cost, such as working adults returning to finish a degree or career changers who want to test their interest in business before committing to a full course sequence. Because Pathways recognizes it by name as BUS241, it carries more certainty than a general elective, though it still counts toward the 90-credit transfer limit. It is not a good fit if you need scheduled live instruction, since the course is self-paced and asynchronous.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
