Principles of Statistics is an introduction to how people collect, summarize, and interpret data. It covers the basic ideas behind surveys and experiments, how to read graphs and tables, and how to use probability to make sense of uncertainty. Students also learn how to work with common distributions, confidence intervals, and sample sizes.
Principles of Statistics is delivered as a self-paced online course with video lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Your grade is weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam, so the closed-book final carries the most weight. When you complete the course, the transcript credit it produces is what Pathways College recognizes as LIB201 – Data & Statistics.
The course teaches you to read graphs and tables, judge where data came from, and use probability and sample sizes to make decisions under uncertainty. These skills apply directly to business analysis, market research, and operational planning. At Pathways, the credit counts toward programs such as the Associate degree and the Bachelor of Arts, so the same skills you build here can also move your degree forward.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Pathways College, where the registrar applies it as LIB201 – Data & Statistics. This named course equivalency means the credit maps to a specific catalog course code rather than appearing as general elective credit, which makes it easier to see how it fits your degree plan. Pathways accepts up to 90 credits (75%) in transfer, so this course counts toward that ceiling along with any other transferred work. Your Pathways advisor can confirm how LIB201 fits into your specific program requirements.
This course suits students who want a practical, business-focused introduction to statistics and plan to finish a Pathways degree at a lower cost than a traditional course. Working adults, students returning to finish a degree, and people changing careers are common fits, since the named LIB201 – Data & Statistics recognition gives the credit a defined place in the catalog. It is not a good match for students who need a theory-heavy or calculus-based statistics course, or for anyone who expects the course to be a substitute for a full math sequence. Transfer credit is also capped at 90 credits (75%) at Pathways, so you should plan the rest of your degree around that limit.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
