Programming in C is an introductory computer science course focused on writing programs in the C language, one of the foundational languages used to understand how software works at a low level. Students learn how to build programs with variables, conditions, loops, functions, arrays, pointers, and basic memory management, along with the ANSI C coding standards used in many development environments.
Programming in C is a self-paced online course built around video lessons, quizzes, an assignment component, and a final exam. Your grade is split evenly across four parts: 25% attendance, 25% quizzes, 25% assignments, and 25% final exam. Once you complete the course, the transcript credit is recognized at Pathways College as General Elective (Pathways), an elective equivalency that counts toward total credit hours and elective requirements.
The course covers variables, conditions, loops, functions, arrays, pointers, and basic memory management, along with the ANSI C standards used in many development environments. These skills apply to any work that involves how software behaves at a low level. At Pathways, the 3 credits land as General Elective credit, so they fill elective hours within an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts plan.
After you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Pathways College. The Pathways registrar then applies General Elective (Pathways) to your record as an elective equivalency. That credit counts toward total credit hours and elective requirements in your degree plan, whether you are pursuing an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts. Pathways accepts up to 90 credits (75%) in transfer, and this course's credits count toward that limit.
This course suits students who want a computer science credit on their record without needing it to fill a specific major slot at Pathways. Working adults finishing an Associate degree or Bachelor of Arts, and students trying to limit what they pay per credit, will find the elective route practical, since each of the 3 credits would otherwise be billed at Pathways' $206 per-credit rate. Pathways caps transfer at 90 credits (75%), so students already close to that ceiling should confirm their remaining room first. It is not the right choice for anyone who needs C programming to satisfy a major or general education requirement, because this equivalency is recognized as elective credit only.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
