Programming in C++ is an introduction to how computers follow instructions and how programmers write those instructions in C++. The course covers the basics of programming logic, algorithms, data types, control structures, loops, arrays, strings, and object-oriented programming concepts. It is a good starting point for understanding how software is built and how code is organized to solve problems.
Programming in C++ is a self-paced online course built around video lessons, with quizzes (20%), one assignment (30%), and a final exam (50%) that together determine the course grade. When the course is complete and the transcript record is issued, Pathways College recognizes it as General Elective (Pathways), an elective equivalency that counts toward total credit hours and elective requirements.
The course covers programming logic, algorithms, data types, loops, arrays, strings, and object-oriented concepts such as classes, inheritance, and polymorphism, which gives you a working sense of how software is organized and built. At Pathways, the 3 credits fill general elective hours in an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts, so the programming foundation sits alongside the rest of your degree rather than replacing any part of it.
Once you finish the course, your transcript is sent to Pathways College, and the registrar applies General Elective (Pathways) to your record. That places 3 credits in your elective requirements and total credit hours, not in a general education or major category. Pathways accepts up to 90 credits (75%) from transfer in total, so this course counts against that ceiling along with any other transferred work. Confirm how the elective credit fits your specific Associate degree or Bachelor of Arts plan with a Pathways advisor before enrolling.
This course suits students who want a practical introduction to programming and who are working toward a Pathways degree on a budget, including adults returning to finish a credential and people moving into a technical field. Because Pathways recognizes it as a general elective rather than a named course equivalent, it fills elective hours and counts toward the 90-credit transfer limit (75%) but will not satisfy a specific required course. If your plan depends on C++ meeting a named major requirement, or if you need a course that a Pathways advisor has specifically matched to a requirement, this course is probably not the right fit.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to Pathways College.
