Programming in Python is an introduction to writing instructions that a computer can follow. In this course, students learn Python syntax, how to work with data, make decisions with code, repeat tasks with loops, and organize programs with functions and modules. It also covers basic problem-solving ideas used in computer science, such as search, sorting, and recursion.
Programming in Python is delivered as a self-paced online course with video lessons, assignments, quizzes, and a proctored final exam. Your final grade is weighted 20% quizzes, 30% assignments, and 50% final exam. Once you complete the course and your transcript shows the credit, Pathways College recognizes it as a General Elective (Pathways), an elective equivalency that counts toward your total credit hours and elective requirements.
The course covers data types, decision structures, loops, functions, modules, and basic search, sorting, and recursion, so you finish with the ability to write small programs that handle real tasks such as cleaning data or automating repetitive steps. At Pathways, this skill set fills elective space in an Associate degree or a Bachelor of Arts, so the time you spend on it moves you toward your credential. Whether it leads you into a technical role or simply makes your current work more efficient, the core logic transfers to other languages.
After you finish Programming in Python through UPI Study, request that your official transcript be sent to Pathways College. The Pathways registrar reviews the record and applies the course as a General Elective (Pathways), which counts toward your total credit hours and elective requirements. Under the July 2025 articulation agreement between Pathways and UPI Study, this elective recognition is separate from the 17 named course equivalents, and other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major may also transfer as electives, up to 48 credits. All transfer credit combined may total no more than 90 credits, which is 75% of a degree program.
This course suits students who want to earn elective credit at a lower cost than a standard Pathways enrollment, including adults returning to finish a degree and people exploring a move into technical work. Because Pathways recognizes it only as a General Elective, it will not fulfill a specific major or general education requirement, so check your degree plan before enrolling. Students who need a required course in their major, or who want a supervised, instructor-led class with live deadlines, should look elsewhere. Pathways accepts transfer credit up to 90 credits (75%), so this course counts within that ceiling.
Pathways College signed an articulation agreement with UPI Study (July 2025): 17 named course equivalents, plus elective credit for other UPI Study courses not used for general education or the major, up to 48 credits.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Pathways College's Registrar reviews and grants transfer credit under Pathways' policies.
