Current Trends in Computer Science and IT is a broad introduction to how modern information technology is used in organizations. It covers both the technical side, such as databases, SQL, application design, and data analytics, and the managerial side, such as IT leadership, decision support systems, and how technology supports business strategy. The course also introduces newer areas like artificial intelligence, machine learning, IoT, big data, and blockchain, with attention to their practical uses and limitations.
The course is self-paced and online, built around video lessons, quizzes, assignments, and a final exam. Your grade is split into four equal parts: attendance, quizzes, assignments, and the final exam, each worth 25%. Once you complete the course and earn the 3 credits, Pathways recognizes that credit as General Elective (Pathways), an elective equivalency that counts toward total credit hours and elective requirements.
The course covers databases and SQL, data analytics, IT leadership, and decision support systems, along with a practical look at AI, machine learning, IoT, big data, and blockchain, including where those tools fall short. At Pathways, the 3 credits land as a General Elective in programs such as the Associate degree or Bachelor of Arts, so the material fits into a degree you are already pursuing.
