UoPeople is tuition-free, but charges a $180 per-course assessment fee for undergraduate courses. Savings = transferred credits × $60 (the per-credit equivalent of UoPeople's $180 assessment fee for a 3-credit course). UoPeople credit awards subject to their evaluation policy.
Business Essentials is an introductory course that explains how businesses work and why they make the decisions they do. It covers core ideas such as supply and demand, business ownership, leadership, operations, ethics, and how companies respond to customers, workers, competitors, and government policy.
Business Essentials is a self-paced online course built from video lessons, quizzes, an assignment, and a final exam. Your grade is weighted equally across four parts: 25% Attendance, 25% Quizzes, 25% Assignments, and 25% Final Exam. Completing the course produces a transcript entry for 3 credits, which University of the People recognizes as Elective credit.
The course covers supply and demand, opportunity cost, market structures, and how businesses respond to customers, workers, competitors, and government policy. Those ideas help when you read a household budget, judge a pricing decision at work, or follow a news story about interest rates. At UoPeople, the 3 credits count toward total credit hours in an Associate of Science or a Bachelor of Science, so the knowledge supports a degree you are already working toward.
After you complete Business Essentials, your official transcript is sent to University of the People, and the UoPeople team evaluates it for you. The registrar then applies the course as Elective credit, which counts toward your total credit hours and your elective requirements rather than a specific named course. You pay only a small per-course assessment fee, since UoPeople is tuition-free. Transfer credit is capped at 90 credits (75%), so plan your remaining coursework with this 3-credit course already counted against that limit.
This course suits working adults and degree-finishers who want to bring existing college credit to UoPeople and fill remaining elective slots with a practical business foundation. It is also a reasonable fit for career changers who want to understand how organizations make decisions before committing to a specialized track. Because UoPeople recognizes it only as Elective credit, it will not satisfy a named core requirement, and it counts toward the 90-credit (75%) transfer ceiling along with any other transferred work. It is not the right choice if you need a specific business course for a major requirement or want hands-on training in accounting or spreadsheets.
University of the People is the world's first non-profit, tuition-free, WASC-accredited online university. Its team evaluates your transcript for you, and you only pay a small per-course assessment fee — no tuition.
Transfer credits are never guaranteed. Final credit awards are determined solely by the receiving university's registrar.
Enroll for $250 (or use a UPI Study subscription), finish in 28–30 days, and transfer 3 credits to University of the People.
