How we counted
Using only SUNY Empire's own posted equivalencies for UPI Study courses, up to 37 of the 120 credits could come from UPI Study (16 in SUNY General Education, 9 in Area of Study: Business, Management and Economics, 12 in General Learning). That is within SUNY Empire's 90-credit limit for outside credit in a 120-credit bachelor's degree and leaves 83 credits to take at SUNY Empire (SUNY Empire requires at least 30). The B.S. also needs at least 60 liberal arts and sciences credits and 45 advanced-level credits, 24 of them in the concentration. SUNY Empire calls each posting unofficial: its Office of the Registrar confirms eligibility, and the student's mentor decides where each credit sits in the degree.
SUNY Empire State University is not a UPI Study partner; what each course counts as comes from SUNY Empire State University's own posted evaluations of ACE- and NCCRS-recommended courses. A suggested course is one to try, not an official equivalency, and is never counted. ACE and NCCRS have over 2,100 cooperating colleges that will consider accepting credits; the final decision is with the universities.

Covered the UPI Study course on this row fills the requirement
UPI Study course
- Advanced Technical WritingEnglish 120 Β· 3 credits Β· recommended by ACE credit recommendation (ACE ID UPIS-0014) and NCCRS credit recommendationCounts as COMW 3015 Technical Writing
SUNY Empire's own posting gives UPI Study's Advanced Technical Writing the Communication - Oral and Communication - Written designations. SUNY sets no credit size for an area: one course in the area meets it, and the 30-credit total is what counts (3 credits shown).
Diversity: Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice (SUNY GE, required)
UPI suggests trying a UPI Study course on the subject: one to try, not an official equivalency, never counted
UPI suggests trying Psychology of Diversity. Not an official equivalency, so it is not counted; SUNY Empire decides.
SUNY Empire has posted no UPI Study course with this designation. UPI Study's Psychology of Diversity is not in SUNY Empire's posted list (its closest SUNY Empire course is PSYC 3120 Psychology of Diversity); ask SUNY Empire's Office of Prior Learning before counting on it. SUNY sets no credit size for an area: one course in the area meets it, and the 30-credit total is what counts (3 credits shown).

Questions, answered
How many credits can I transfer into SUNY Empire's Bachelor of Science in Business, Management and Economics?
37 of the 120 credits can come from UPI Study courses on SUNY Empire's own posted evaluations of UPI Study courses: 12 courses across the sections in the table above. SUNY Empire applies at most 90 transfer credits to this degree. Up to 49 if SUNY Empire confirms the rows marked βAsk your advisorβ (those rows are not counted). SUNY Empire evaluates the official transcript and has the final say on every credit.
Does SUNY Empire accept UPI Study or NCCRS credits?
SUNY Empire State University is not a UPI Study partner, but it works with NCCRS and ACE and has posted its own evaluations of UPI Study courses; this plan uses only those postings. ACE and NCCRS have over 2,100 cooperating colleges that will consider accepting credits; the final decision is with the universities. SUNY Empire confirms each credit when it evaluates your official transcript.
Did SUNY Empire make this degree plan?
UPI Study made this plan; SUNY Empire did not provide, review or approve it. Students ask us for plans like this all the time, so we built it ourselves from SUNY Empire's published catalog and its posted course equivalencies, as carefully as we can. Catalogs and transfer rules change, and SUNY Empire alone decides what counts toward your degree. Please check every line of this plan and sheet with your SUNY Empire advisor before you enroll or pay. UPI Study takes no responsibility for decisions made from this plan; it is a planning tool to help you.
Who confirms my SUNY Empire degree plan?
Your SUNY Empire mentor. The Bachelor of Science in Business, Management and Economics is an individualized degree: this plan is built from SUNY Empire's area-of-study guidelines for it and its own posted evaluations of UPI Study courses. Your SUNY Empire mentor confirms your plan in the educational planning course, and the Office of the Registrar confirms each credit.
Do SUNY Empire's postings for UPI Study courses have a date window?
Yes. Each posting in SUNY Empire's Professional Learning Evaluation search covers UPI Study courses finished inside its date window; of the 12 posted courses in this plan, 6 from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2027, 5 from 1 March 2021 to 31 August 2027 and 1 from 1 February 2025 to 31 January 2028. A course finished outside its window is not covered by that posting: check the window in the search before you enrol, and ask SUNY Empire's Office of Prior Learning (OPL@sunyempire.edu) whether a newer evaluation exists.
Can I finish the general education requirements before I enrol at SUNY Empire?
Much of it: 16 of the 30 credits in SUNY General Education can come from UPI Study courses (Advanced Technical Writing, Calculus 1, Intro to Biology 2, Introduction to Psychology and Introduction to Sociology). The other 14 credits are taken at SUNY Empire or from another source SUNY Empire accepts. You can take the UPI Study courses before you apply; SUNY Empire applies the credit once it has your official transcript.
How long would it take if I do 2 courses a month?
The 12 UPI Study courses in this plan take about 6 months at 2 courses a month, about 12 at 1 a month and about 4 at 3. Every course is self-paced and starts any day. The plan builder on this page redoes the sum for the courses you tick and your own pace.
What's the cheapest way to do the UPI Study part of this degree?
Yearly access is the lowest total for the 12 courses in this plan: at 2 courses a month they take about 6 months, so $495 for 12 months covers them (about $495 in total). Lifetime access is $599 once and covers every UPI Study course for as long as you need, at any pace; monthly access is $99 a month (about $594 at this pace); a single course is $250. Transcripts are $20 extra. These are the plans for SUNY Empire students, wherever you live; eligibility is confirmed at checkout. The rest of the degree is paid to SUNY Empire at its own tuition.
Do I need to be enrolled at SUNY Empire before I take UPI Study courses?
No. UPI Study courses are open to anyone, and most students take them before they apply or between terms. SUNY Empire evaluates the official transcript when you apply or when you ask for a transfer evaluation. If you are already enrolled, ask your SUNY Empire mentor before you register for a course, so the credit lands where you expect.
How do I send my UPI Study transcript to SUNY Empire?
Request it from your UPI Study account when your courses are complete: UPI Study sends the official transcript to SUNY Empire for $20. SUNY Empire then decides how each credit applies to the Bachelor of Science in Business, Management and Economics.
What if my SUNY Empire mentor says a course doesn't count?
SUNY Empire has the final say. This plan counts only SUNY Empire's own posted evaluations of UPI Study courses; the 8 rows marked βAsk your advisorβ or βUPI suggests tryingβ are left out of the total for that reason. If a mentor places a course differently, ask whether it can count as an elective instead, and ask for the placement in writing before you take the next course.
Which requirements have to be taken at SUNY Empire itself?
Educational Planning course: SUNY Empire does not accept transfer credit for this. At least 30 credits must be taken at SUNY Empire. Every bachelor's degree needs at least 45 advanced-level credits. Every requirement with no counted UPI Study course is also taken at SUNY Empire or from another source SUNY Empire accepts.
Not at SUNY Empire?
ACE and NCCRS have over 2,100 cooperating colleges that will consider accepting credits; the final decision is with the universities.
