How we counted

75 of 120 credits are covered by TESU-confirmed UPI Study equivalencies placed where TESU's own catalog or General Education list puts them (named courses, gen ed categories, free electives). A further 7 credits could be covered if a TESU advisor agrees to the "ask the advisor" placements (different TESU code, level or an advisor-approved elective list), for at most 82 of 120. 6 credits are TESU-only requirements (SOS-1100 and the Capstone). The other credits left are requirements with no TESU-confirmed UPI Study course; they can be completed at TESU or from another source TESU accepts. Upper-level rule: 18 area-of-study credits at 3000+ including the Capstone. Calculus I and II are 2000-level, so the upper-level math credits (Calculus III, Linear Algebra and the math electives) come from TESU or another source.

What each UPI Study course counts as comes from TESU's posted equivalency list for UPI Study courses. A suggested course is one to try, not an official equivalency, and is never counted. ACE and NCCRS have over 2,100 cooperating colleges that will consider accepting credits; the final decision is with the universities.

Questions, answered

How many credits can I transfer into TESU's B.A. in Mathematics?

75 of the 120 credits can come from UPI Study courses on TESU's posted equivalency list for UPI Study courses: 25 courses across the sections in the table above. TESU applies at most 90 ACE/NCCRS-recommended credits to this degree. Up to 82 if TESU confirms the rows marked β€œAsk your advisor” (those rows are not counted). TESU evaluates the official transcript and has the final say on every credit.

Does TESU accept UPI Study courses?

Yes. Thomas Edison State University is a UPI Study partner and has posted an equivalency list for UPI Study courses; this plan counts only the courses on that list. Every UPI Study course carries an ACE or NCCRS credit recommendation, and TESU decides how each credit applies when it receives the official transcript.

Did TESU make this degree plan?

UPI Study made this plan; TESU did not provide, review or approve it. Students ask us for plans like this all the time, so we built it ourselves from TESU's published catalog and its posted equivalency list for UPI Study courses, as carefully as we can. Catalogs and transfer rules change, and TESU alone decides what counts toward your degree. Please check every line of this plan and sheet with your TESU advisor before you enroll or pay. UPI Study takes no responsibility for decisions made from this plan; it is a planning tool to help you.

Can I finish the general education requirements before I enrol at TESU?

Much of it: 27 of the 45 credits in I. General Education can come from UPI Study courses (Chemistry I, Programming in Python, Introduction to Psychology, Principles of Philosophy, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and 3 more). The other 18 credits are taken at TESU or from another source TESU accepts. You can take the UPI Study courses before you apply; TESU applies the credit once it has your official transcript.

How long would it take if I do 2 courses a month?

The 25 UPI Study courses in this plan take about 13 months at 2 courses a month, about 25 at 1 a month and about 9 at 3. Every course is self-paced and starts any day. The plan builder on this page redoes the sum for the courses you tick and your own pace.

What's the cheapest way to do the UPI Study part of this degree?

Lifetime access, $599 once, is the lowest total for the 25 courses in this plan: at 2 courses a month they take about 13 months, and Lifetime covers every UPI Study course for as long as you need. Monthly access is $89 a month (about $1157 at this pace); a single course is $250. Transcripts are $20 extra. These are the UPI Study partner plans for TESU students, wherever you live; eligibility is confirmed at checkout. The rest of the degree is paid to TESU at its own tuition.

Do I need to be enrolled at TESU before I take UPI Study courses?

No. UPI Study courses are open to anyone, and most students take them before they apply or between terms. TESU evaluates the official transcript when you apply or when you ask for a transfer evaluation. If you are already enrolled, ask your TESU advisor before you register for a course, so the credit lands where you expect.

How do I send my UPI Study transcript to TESU?

Request it from your UPI Study account when your courses are complete: UPI Study sends the official transcript to TESU for $20. TESU then decides how each credit applies to the B.A. in Mathematics.

What if my TESU advisor says a course doesn't count?

TESU has the final say. This plan counts only TESU's posted equivalency list for UPI Study courses; the 6 rows marked β€œAsk your advisor” or β€œUPI suggests trying” are left out of the total for that reason. If an advisor places a course differently, ask where else it can count (III. Electives is already full in this plan), and ask for the placement in writing before you take the next course.

Which requirements have to be taken at TESU itself?

Information Literacy and Liberal Arts Capstone: TESU does not accept transfer credit for these. ACE/NCCRS-recommended credit (this is how UPI Study credit reaches TESU): at most 90 semester hours toward a bachelor's degree and 45 toward an associate degree. SOS-1100 Fact, Fiction, or Fake? Information Literacy Today must be taken at TESU (no transfer credit from any source); second-degree students are exempt. Every requirement with no counted UPI Study course is also taken at TESU or from another source TESU accepts.

Which UPI Study courses count toward the B.A. in Mathematics?

25 courses: Data Structures and Algorithms, Programming in C, Programming in C++, Introduction to Java, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Database Fundamentals, Computer Concepts and Applications, Principles of Management, System Analysis and Design, Introduction to Operating Systems, Chemistry I, Programming in Python and 13 more. Each one is placed on the row it fills in the table above, with what it counts as at TESU.

Is there a limit on transfer credits for this degree at TESU?

Yes, on one kind: TESU accepts at most 90 credits from ACE- and NCCRS-recommended courses, such as UPI Study's, toward the B.A. in Mathematics. Credit from other colleges can fill the rest of the degree, except Information Literacy and Liberal Arts Capstone, which are taken at TESU. This plan's 75 credits are within the limit.

Not at TESU?

ACE and NCCRS have over 2,100 cooperating colleges that will consider accepting credits; the final decision is with the universities.
