Newlane B.A. Philosophy Degree Plan Transfer Credit Map
Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at Newlane University, with UPI Study courses
81of 120 credits can come from UPI Study courses under the UPI Study and Newlane agreement. Up to 90 if Newlane confirms you can transfer them without first earning its associate degree. 39 are taken at Newlane.
Made by UPI Study, not by Newlane. Check every line with your Newlane advisor before you enroll.
One square per credit, in the colours of the status column; every three squares are one 3-credit course. Grey squares are taken at Newlane. Pale green squares are courses past the limit this plan counts (81 credits); you would not need them. Sections are ordered fullest first; inside a section the order is Newlane's own.
If Newlane asks you to earn its associate degree first (its catalog: students "must have earned an Associate degree or higher before enrolling in the bachelor's program"), 3 of its Introduction Sequence courses are taken at Newlane as well (the fourth, PHIL101, is one of your major courses), so this plan counts 81. The plan builder leaves out Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, Medical Terminology and Healthcare Organization and Management (9 credits) until Newlane confirms.

How we counted
120 credits are required. Under the agreement, UPI Study courses can fill 90 credits (12 as named Newlane courses, 18 as GE-category credit, 60 as elective credit), which is Newlane's 90-credit transfer cap. The other 30 credits are the 10 major courses, which Newlane requires you to take at Newlane whatever you transfer; two of them also meet the Communication & Information Literacy and Arts & Humanities credits UPI does not fill. Newlane's bachelor's degrees build on an associate degree: if Newlane asks you to earn its Associate of Arts first, that degree's own Newlane courses may add to the 30. Newlane makes the final evaluation. Up to 90 if Newlane confirms you can transfer them without first earning its associate degree.
What each UPI Study course counts as comes from the signed UPI Study and Newlane University agreement. A suggested course is one to try, not an official equivalency, and is never counted. ACE and NCCRS have over 2,100 cooperating colleges that will consider accepting credits; the final decision is with the universities.

120 credits, less 30 major and 30 GE credits, leaves 60. University Experience (3 credits) can be waived when you transfer more than 12 credits, and the 6 GE credits two major courses meet count under the major, so those 9 credits are electives. Any listed course works.

Questions, answered
How many credits can I transfer into Newlane's Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy?
81 of the 120 credits can come from UPI Study courses on the signed UPI Study and Newlane agreement: 27 courses across the sections in the table above. Up to 90 if Newlane confirms you can transfer them without first earning its associate degree. Newlane evaluates the official transcript and has the final say on every credit.
Does Newlane accept UPI Study courses?
Yes. Newlane University is a signed UPI Study partner: the agreement lists what each UPI Study course counts as at Newlane, and this plan uses only those equivalencies. Every UPI Study course carries an ACE or NCCRS credit recommendation, and Newlane decides how each credit applies when it receives the official transcript.
Did Newlane make this degree plan?
UPI Study made this plan; Newlane did not provide, review or approve it. Students ask us for plans like this all the time, so we built it ourselves from Newlane's published catalog and the course equivalencies in its signed agreement with UPI Study, as carefully as we can. Catalogs and transfer rules change, and Newlane alone decides what counts toward your degree. Please check every line of this plan and sheet with your Newlane advisor before you enroll or pay. UPI Study takes no responsibility for decisions made from this plan; it is a planning tool to help you.
Do I need an associate degree first?
Newlane's catalog says you must have earned an associate degree or higher before enrolling in the bachelor's; its tuition section says you can also "transfer the equivalent number of credits". Newlane's transfer page adds that a student with 90+ transferable credits and no associate "may only need 10 courses total to earn both". Ask Newlane which route applies to you: earning its Associate of Arts first can add Newlane courses. That is why this plan counts 81 UPI Study credits, not 90: up to 90 if Newlane confirms you can transfer them without first earning its associate degree.
Can I finish the general education requirements before I enrol at Newlane?
All of it: 30 of the 30 credits in General Education can come from UPI Study courses (Advanced Technical Writing, Principles of Statistics, Managerial Accounting, Intro to Biology 1, Physics I, Introduction to Psychology and 4 more). You can take the UPI Study courses before you apply; Newlane applies the credit once it has your official transcript.
How long would it take if I do 2 courses a month?
The 27 UPI Study courses in this plan take about 14 months at 2 courses a month, about 27 at 1 a month and about 9 at 3. Every course is self-paced and starts any day. The plan builder on this page redoes the sum for the courses you tick and your own pace.
What's the cheapest way to do the UPI Study part of this degree?
Lifetime access, $599 once, is the lowest total for the 27 courses in this plan: at 2 courses a month they take about 14 months, and Lifetime covers every UPI Study course for as long as you need. Monthly access is $89 a month (about $1246 at this pace); a single course is $250. Transcripts are $20 extra. These are the UPI Study partner plans for Newlane students, wherever you live; eligibility is confirmed at checkout. The rest of the degree is paid to Newlane at its own tuition.
Do I need to be enrolled at Newlane before I take UPI Study courses?
No. UPI Study courses are open to anyone, and most students take them before they apply or between terms. Newlane evaluates the official transcript when you apply or when you ask for a transfer evaluation. If you are already enrolled, ask your Newlane advisor before you register for a course, so the credit lands where you expect.
How do I send my UPI Study transcript to Newlane?
Request it from your UPI Study account when your courses are complete: UPI Study sends the official transcript to Newlane for $20. Newlane then decides how each credit applies to the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy.
What if my Newlane advisor says a course doesn't count?
Newlane has the final say. This plan counts only the signed UPI Study and Newlane agreement; the 0 rows marked βAsk your advisorβ or βUPI suggests tryingβ are left out of the total for that reason. If an advisor places a course differently, ask where else it can count (Electives is already full in this plan), and ask for the placement in writing before you take the next course.
Which requirements have to be taken at Newlane itself?
Orientation: NWLN100 Newlane Basic Orientation and Jumpstart, PHIL101 Introduction to Philosophy, PHIL102 Introduction to Ethics, PHIL201 History of Ancient Western Philosophy, PHIL202 History of Modern Western Philosophy, Logic: PHIL103 Introduction to Logic or PHIL203 Symbolic Logic and 4 more: Newlane does not accept transfer credit for these. Up to 75% of the degree's credits can be transfer credit (90 of 120). transfer credit earned within 5 years can stand in for up to two of them, but you then take other Newlane courses instead (policy: up to 25% of major credits may be transfer credit). Every requirement with no counted UPI Study course is also taken at Newlane or from another source Newlane accepts.
Which UPI Study courses count toward the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy?
27 courses: Business Law, Human Resources Management, Marketing Research, Fundamentals of Information Technology, Computer Concepts and Applications, Introduction to Computing, Current Trends in Computer Science and IT, Ethics in Technology, Introduction to Networking, Introduction to Linux, Cybersecurity, Network and Systems Security and 15 more. Each one is placed on the row it fills in the table above, with what it counts as at Newlane.
Not at Newlane?
ACE and NCCRS have over 2,100 cooperating colleges that will consider accepting credits; the final decision is with the universities.
