From a UPI class to a Newlane degree.

Colleges usually record UPI Study courses as transfer credit, as credit for prior learning (CPL), or as noncollegiate (alternative) credit. That is how colleges evaluate professional training reviewed by ACE or NCCRS, and UPI Study courses are reviewed the same way: every UPI Study course listed here carries an NCCRS credit recommendation, and some also carry an ACE credit recommendation. The Newlane equivalent for each UPI Study course is listed on this page. Send your official UPI Study transcript to Newlane University; Newlane decides how each course counts, and the final decision is with the university.

Yes. Newlane University and UPI Study have a formal Articulation Agreement under which Newlane recognizes UPI Study courses for credit in its undergraduate degrees. ACE and NCCRS credit recommendations are accepted as the evaluation basis. The equivalency for every UPI Study course is shown in the cards on this page.

Newlane charges $1,500 per degree, not per year or per credit, however many credits you transfer in. You pay $249 to get started (Newlane's registration fee, refundable within 30 days), then $39 a month until you have paid $1,500 for that degree. A bachelor's is $1,500 if you already hold an associate degree; if you don't, you first earn Newlane's associate, so a full bachelor's is $3,000. The $1,500 covers 35 months of study; after that, Newlane charges $150 for each 3-month extension. Newlane's tuition page says course materials are included, and it lists no technology, graduation or per-course fees.

Yes. Newlane received accreditation from the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) in July 2023. DEAC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). You can verify this directly through the DEAC accredited institutions directory, the U.S. Department of Education's DAPIP database, or the CHEA database.

Newlane offers nine undergraduate degrees and one master's: the Associate of Arts in General Studies (60 credits); the B.A. in Philosophy; the B.A. in Liberal Arts, on its own or with a specialization in Art History, Biological & Health Sciences, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Education or Psychology (each bachelor's is 120 credits); and the M.A. in Philosophy (30 credits, $3,000; Newlane does not accept transfer credit at the master's level). To enroll in a bachelor's, you must first complete the associate degree or transfer an equivalent number of credits. UPI Study courses can fill most of that requirement before you ever enroll at Newlane.

Newlane accepts up to 75% of degree credit requirements as transfer credit — which is up to 90 credits for the Bachelor's degree. Credits may come from UPI Study (ACE/NCCRS), prior college coursework at accredited institutions, CLEP, DSST, AP (score of 3+), and ACE-evaluated military training. Newlane accepts grades of 'C-' or higher for transfer credit.

No. You can earn UPI Study credits with no Newlane enrollment, no application, and no admission process. Take courses at your own pace, earn ACE/NCCRS-recommended credit, then submit your transcript to Newlane when you're ready to enroll.

UPI Study sends an official transcript in PDF format directly to the email address designated by Newlane upon course completion. From there, Newlane's registrar applies the agreed equivalencies. No third-party services are involved.

Yes. Documented Newlane graduates have been admitted to master's and doctoral programs at Louisiana State University, San Francisco State University, University of Exeter, University of Nottingham, London School of Theology, and UMass Global, among others.

No. Newlane does not participate in federal Title IV financial aid programs, so there are no Pell Grants and no federal student loans.

University of the People is tuition-free but charges a $180 assessment fee per undergraduate course, about $7,260 for a 120-credit bachelor's taken entirely at UoPeople. Newlane charges $1,500 per degree ($3,000 for a full bachelor's), is professor-led, and is DEAC-accredited.

Yes. Newlane is fully online and accepts students from anywhere in the world. No student visa is required since there is no campus. All coursework and exams are in English.
