Ashford’s roots go back to 1918, when it started as Franciscan University of the Prairies in Clinton, Iowa. The institution later became Ashford University, and after its 2020 acquisition it now operates as the University of Arizona Global Campus. It’s based in San Diego, but the student body is mostly online and adult learners. That gives it a different feel from a residential campus. You’ll see a lot of working students, parents, and military-connected students.
UAGC’s biggest academic draw is its online degree lineup in business, education, psychology, and social and behavioral sciences. The Forbes School of Business and Technology is one of the better-known parts of the university, especially for transfer students looking at business or IT-adjacent majors. The College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education also handle a large share of undergraduate enrollments. Much of the value here comes from finishing required lower-division work efficiently, then moving into major courses.
UAGC reviews transfer credit from regionally accredited colleges, military training, CLEP, and ACE/NCCRS-recommended coursework through its registrar and academic departments. Like most schools, it usually posts approved credits as either direct equivalents, general education substitutions, or elective credit. The exact outcome depends on the course and your degree plan. Students should expect a credit audit after transcripts are received, especially when the source is nontraditional.

UAGC uses rolling admissions, so transfer students usually don’t wait for a single fall deadline. There isn’t a hard minimum transfer GPA for every applicant, but being in good academic standing helps, and some programs review records more closely than others. A clean transcript and clear course descriptions make the evaluation faster. If you’ve taken UPI Study courses, send those transcripts early so the registrar has time to post the credit before registration.

Step 1 — What type of student are you?Real experiences from UPI Study students who transferred credits toward their degree.
I checked UAGC first, then bought the courses. That saved us time and money. My son finished two UPI Study classes over the summer and got them transferred in without a fight.
I worked full-time and studied at night. UPI Study fit my schedule, and my university accepted the credit after I sent the transcript. It was the only way I could keep moving.
I took online credits from India while living in Bengaluru. My US university accepted them after the evaluation, and that helped me stay on track without leaving home.
I’m a paramedic, so my schedule changes fast. UPI Study let me finish credits on my own time, and that made the promotion path a lot easier.
These UPI Study courses have the highest transfer acceptance rates among UA-accepted ACE & NCCRS-recommended credits — ideal for fulfilling general education requirements at Ashford University (University of Arizona Global Campus).
Answers to what students actually search for before they enroll.
Yes. UAGC reviews ACE and NCCRS recommendations, along with CLEP and military training, through its registrar and academic departments. The final decision depends on how the course fits your degree plan. A UPI Study course in communication or math, for example, may come in as general education credit or as an elective if there isn’t a direct match. That’s pretty typical at UAGC, especially for adult learners building transfer credit from mixed sources.
UAGC generally allows a large amount of transfer credit, but the exact cap depends on the degree and where the credit comes from. For bachelor’s degrees, students usually need to complete a minimum number of credits at the university itself, even if they bring in a lot of outside work. Approved credits often land as gen-ed or elective hours unless they match a specific course. The registrar’s audit is what determines the final count.
Community college credits from regionally accredited schools are commonly reviewed at UAGC, especially lower-division general education courses. California community college coursework is often easier to place because the course descriptions are detailed and standardized. UPI Study credits are evaluated differently because they’re ACE/NCCRS-recommended rather than transcripted by a community college, but they can still satisfy the same gen-ed or elective needs. The registrar looks at the source, content, and degree fit.
First, request your transcript from UPI Study after you finish the course. Then send it to UAGC’s registrar or admissions office for evaluation. The credit review usually happens after your official records are on file, and approved courses get posted to your student transcript once the audit is complete. If you’re close to registration, send the transcript early so you’re not waiting on the evaluation during add/drop.
UAGC undergraduate tuition is about $370 per credit hour. Thirty credits at that rate would cost about $11,100 before fees. UPI Study’s $499 yearly plan is far cheaper if you’re using it to complete several transferable credits before enrolling. The savings are biggest when you use those credits to knock out gen-eds and start at UAGC with fewer remaining requirements.
UAGC is best known for online business, education, psychology, and social and behavioral science programs. The Forbes School of Business and Technology gets a lot of attention, and the School of Education is another major draw. UPI Study credits can clear out general education requirements so you can spend more time on upper-division major classes. That matters a lot in degree paths with tight sequencing.
UAGC doesn’t use one simple transfer GPA rule for every student, but applicants in good academic standing usually have the smoothest process. Some programs may look more closely at prior coursework, especially if you’re entering a licensure-related field. Your UPI Study grades don’t factor into UAGC’s transfer GPA the same way college GPA does, since ACE/NCCRS courses are usually transcripted as credit rather than graded college work.
UAGC uses rolling admissions, so transfer students can apply throughout the year rather than waiting for one deadline. That said, you should finish UPI Study courses well before the term you want to start, because transcript review takes time. If you’re planning a spring or fall start, getting your credit evaluation done early can save you from last-minute registration problems. There usually isn’t a single hard cutoff for transfers.
UAGC uses rolling admissions, so students can usually start more than once a year. Transfers and new undergrads don’t have to wait for a single annual intake. That makes it easier to line up ACE/NCCRS coursework before enrollment.
UAGC generally admits students on a rolling basis, so there aren’t fixed fall and spring deadlines like at many campus schools. You apply when you’re ready, then register for the next available start date. For transfers, the practical deadline is really the date you need transcripts evaluated before classes begin. That’s why early submission matters.
Yes. UAGC was built around adult learners, and transfer credit plays a big role in how students finish degrees there. A large share of students are online and working while enrolled, so prior credit is part of the normal path. That makes it a practical place for students with community college, military, or ACE/NCCRS credit.
For most undergraduate applicants, UAGC doesn’t use SAT or ACT as a central admission screen. Transfer students are usually evaluated on prior college work instead. That fits the school’s adult-learner model, where previous credit matters more than standardized tests.
Yes, UAGC provides orientation for new students, and online orientation is part of the process. Transfer students usually go through a version that focuses on degree planning, student services, and the online classroom. It’s meant to get you into the system quickly.
UAGC is primarily online. Its main administrative presence is in San Diego, but it doesn’t operate like a traditional residential campus. There aren’t dorms, and most students study from home while working or managing family schedules.
UAGC offers institutional aid, including scholarships for eligible undergraduates, transfer students, and military-connected students. Some awards are tied to academic standing or specific programs, especially in business and education. Transfer students can qualify, but the exact amount depends on the aid package and enrollment level.
Most students finish a single course in 2–4 weeks studying a few hours per day. There are no deadlines. You can go faster if you already know the material, or spread it out over a couple of months if you're working full-time. The self-paced format means your schedule decides the timeline, not a semester calendar.
ACE (American Council on Education) and NCCRS (National College Credit Recommendation Service) are organizations that evaluate non-traditional coursework and recommend it for college credit. They're the same bodies that evaluate military training and CLEP exams. Over 2,100 US universities have policies to accept credits from ACE/NCCRS-evaluated sources. The recommendation doesn't automatically mean a specific university will take every course — each registrar evaluates independently — but it's the standard credential for this type of transfer.
Once you pass a course, you can request an official transcript through the UPI Study portal. Transcripts are processed within a few business days and sent directly to your university's registrar, or provided as a PDF for you to submit yourself. The transcript lists completed courses, credit hours, grades, and the ACE/NCCRS recommendation reference.
